SEAN Dyche says Leicester City’s recent winning run has come as no great shock to him.

The only surprise for the Burnley manager is finding the Foxes in the bottom three in the first place, and that is an opinion shared by friends and colleagues in the game.

“When you talk to people around the game – not just in the Premier League but other managers – I think there’s been a surprise that they’ve been down there if I’m honest,” said the Clarets boss ahead of this afternoon’s clash between bottom and third bottom at Turf Moor.

“I’m not suggesting they’d be top 10 or anything like that, but when they got off to a good start I thought they’d be in good shape.

“I was surprised.

“Like us they’ve had a few things go against them and that can make a difference, but certainly the people I speak to in the game are surprised they’re not just a little bit better off than they are.

“But of course maybe they’ve chosen the right time to win their games.”

Another factor in Dyche’s expectations for this afternoon’s opponents was promotion to the Premier League was a longer term project for Leicester than it had been for the Clarets.

“I think Leicester have been building for three or four, or five seasons even, with a lot of investment there on players and their training ground. They’ve been building over time,” he said.

“We’ve had to build everything very quickly from last season with recruitment, training ground, improvements to the ground, the team on the pitch, balance the books, we’ve had to really condense that.”
