DAVID Jones says Burnley will have to be at their focused best to stop Alexis Sanchez and his Arsenal team-mates in the Clarets’ next relegation crunch clash on Saturday.

Burnley have kept clean sheets against Manchester City and Tottenham in their last two home games but next up is an Arsenal side who have won seven games in a row and thrashed Liverpool 4-1 at the weekend.

The Clarets need another result to aid their chances of surviving in the Premier League but found it impossible to contain £35m Sanchez when they lost 3-0 at the Emirates in November.

Burnley boss Sean Dyche has often spoke since about how impressed he was with the Chilean that day and Jones says that the Clarets cannot afford to lose concentration for a second on Saturday if they are to keep Sanchez quiet this time.

“He did play well at the Emirates,” Jones said.

“He’s quite small in stature and very quick, and he can turn on a sixpence so it’s very hard to pick up players like that. Even if you read where he’s going, you can’t always stop him.

“He’s a very sharp player, and pace and skill will always be a threat.

“But we’ve come up against a number of players - obviously at Chelsea, Manchester United - all the clubs in the Premier League have top players and we’ll just have to be on our game as always.

“We won’t just concentrate on Sanchez, they have plenty of guys who can hurt you.

“But he’s a top player so concentration has got to be key for us - as we demonstrated against City and against Spurs.”

In those games Burnley managed to contain the likes of Sergio Aguero and Harry Kane.

Jones thinks continuing that defensive solidity will be vital in the remaining matches, if they are to give themselves a real chance of picking up victories.

“We want to be solid, we want to work hard and also at times show the quality we need when we get chances,” he said.

“The last two home games have demonstrated that. The Tottenham game was a similar type of performance to City, it just needed a little bit of quality or a little bit of magic in the other box and we would have got another victory.

“To keep clean sheets against top teams in the league gives you confidence and hopefully we can continue that in the remaining seven games because that’s what we need.

“Arsenal are playing well but we’ve faced everyone almost here at Turf Moor, we’ll work hard and give our all and see where it takes us.

“You have to concentrate all the time. Even against Tottenham in the 80th minute, 90th minute, we had to be bang on our concentration because they have players who can hurt you.

“Arsenal have got plenty of those so it’s going to have to be another high energy, high quality and high concentration performance against them.”

Burnley’s recent clean sheets have come after the return of veteran defender Michael Duff to the side.

“Duffo trains hard every day, there was never going to be a question of fitness and he’s got the experience that his appearances and his age gives you,” Jones said.

“He’s a clever footballer, he knows what he’s doing out there and he’s brought some solidity to us when he’s played.

“The way the manager works, every player knows what they’re doing even if they’re out of the team.

“That’s how the manager wants it - that when a player comes in, they can fit back in straight away.”
