BURNLEY will keep their heads when the going gets tough over the final two months of the season, according to defender Ben Mee.

With the battle to stay in the Premier League hotting up with eight games to go, Mee has backed his team-mates to stay cool under pressure.

The Clarets are in the relegation zone as the league enters its final two months, but Sunderland, Hull and Aston Villa are all within touching distance for Sean Dyche’s side.

"We won't get overwhelmed, we kept our heads really well last year, took it game by game and this is similar this year,” said Mee.

"Obviously the games are a lot tougher, and there's a lot riding on them, but the same applies last year.

"But we feel we have adapted to this level, everyone has grown into the season and we want to show that towards the end of the season.”

Burnley held their nerve throughout last season to secure this Premier League opportunity.

They put together a 16 game unbeaten league run after defeat on Boxing Day to cement a place in the top two, behind eventual champions Leicester City.

Mee thinks that experience could be vital as they look to stay within striking distance of safety over the next couple of weeks.

Turf Moor plays host to north London rivals Tottenham and Arsenal on successive weekends now, but the fixtures get easier after that, giving the Clarets a fighting chance of securing survival come the end of May.

Mee is relishing the battles against fellow relegation scrappers Leicester, Hull and Villa in the final weeks of season, and he insists that the Clarets won’t go away as the fight intensifies.

"We're coming out of a tricky run but they are all tough games, the ones coming up against the teams in and around us are going to be good battles,” said the former Manchester City trainee.

"We're playing against the top sides in the country though, and it's good.

"We've shown we can be as good, be confident against them and have no fear.

"We won't go away, as we've shown all season, we want to annoy people and stick around, and get results.

"Everyone apart from us wrote us off, but we know what we're about, we compete every game.”

Easter Sunday’s Turf Moor clash with Tottenham will be the fourth time the two sides have played each other this season.

Spurs edged a tight Premier League match at White Hart Lane 2-1 in the week before Christmas, before a 1-1 FA Cup third round draw at Turf Moor in early January, with Tottenham running out 4-1 winners in the replay.

Mee believes the Clarets can take heart from the cup stalemate in East Lancashire with Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

"We played Spurs at our place and gave as good as we got again, and we'll look forward to it,” he said.
