BURNLEY boss Sean Dyche is hoping that last week’s warm weather trip to Spain will have the same positive effect on his side that it did last year.

The Clarets flew out to Spain on Monday and spent five days in the sun as they tried to refresh weary bodies for the final eight games of the season.

It’s a tactic Dyche used last season, with the break helping to spur his side on to promotion from the Championship, and the Clarets boss hopes it will work well once again this season.

“We have utilised the free time to get a few days in a warmer climate, with some really good training and relaxation,” said the Clarets chief.

“We did it last year and it we had a really positive effect from it, so we’re hoping for the same this year.

“We felt the players enjoyed it last year and it’s just a break from the norm really.

“We’ve mixed and matched between having a couple of training sessions, one session, along with good relaxation.”

Burnley have remained at Gawthorpe during their previous free weekends this season, having had blank weekends due to an early exit from the FA Cup.

But this time around Dyche was keen to re-charge batteries with some training under the sun.

Most of the first-team went away, although Danny Ings and Michael Keane are away with England Under-21 squad, Stephen Ward is on duty with the Republic of Ireland and Sam Vokes is back in the Wales squad for the first time since his injury ahead of their match with Israel tomorrow.

Despite that Burnley boss Dyche was happy with the trip and believes it will prove its worth in the final two months of the Premier League campaign.

“The lads have all enjoyed it,” he added.

“It’s just a shame all the lads on international duty couldn’t be here, but we’ve still had the bulk of the lads with us and I think it’s been a worthwhile trip.”

Burnley return to Premier League action on Easter Sunday when Champions League chasing Tottenham are the visitors.

The Clarets are currently one point and one place off safety ahead of next weekend’s clash.
