LAST weekend’s defeat to Southampton was disappointing but I think we would all have taken being in this situation with eight games to go at the start of the season, and especially after not winning any of the first 10 games of the season.

The team has come a long way since then and to be only a point away from being out of the relegation zone with eight games to go is a good position to be in. I’m sure Leicester and QPR would gladly swap positions with us.

We had chances at Southampton but couldn’t take them, which was frustrating, and should have had a penalty for the foul on George Boyd. It looked a stonewall decision and most of the pundits seem to agree.

But we have put ourselves in with a fantastic chance of staying up.

The next two home games are going to be difficult, with Tottenham and Arsenal coming to Turf Moor, but there is no reason we can’t cause a shock and win one of them.

They will both be thinking about what happened the last time a big team came to Turf Moor. City got beat and it was a fantastic day and a fantastic atmosphere.

Danny Ings might not have made the full England squad this time, but hopefully he can score a few goals for the Under-21s and come back to Burnley and get a few more crucial goals between now and the end of the season for Burnley.

Sam Vokes has made the Wales squad and I’m delighted to see him back in.

It’s almost a year since he had that horribly injury and I’m sure it’s been a battle for him to get back to that level of fitness that he really wanted.

He’s started the last two league games and looks to be getting back to his best now, and it’s great he is back with Wales ahead of their big game.

It would be great if he could get a goal and I imagine he is desperate to get that first Premier League goal.
