DANNY Ings will probably be disappointed to have missed out on the England squad, but it’s testament to the season that he’s had that he was even being talked about as a possibility.

Even the most ardent Burnley fan would have to admit that Harry Kane has been a revelation this season, so it wasn’t a surprise to see the Tottenham striker called up by Roy Hodgson yesterday.

With the amount of goals he’s scored he’s just that little bit ahead of Danny right now.

But Danny knows he’s close to a call-up, so he’s just got to keep doing well for Burnley between now and the end of the season.

His focus will be on helping Burnley stay in the Premier League.

Danny will probably play for England at the European Under 21 Championships in the summer and I think he will feel a lot happier if he goes into that tournament having kept Burnley in the top flight.

It was a superb performance and result against Manchester City and I thought it was good of Manuel Pellegrini to say that his side were beaten by a brilliant goal from George Boyd.

Pellegrini was very gracious, which is not always the same for every other manager, without naming names.

It’s a long hike down to Southampton for the fans tomorrow but I’m sure they’ll go down in force as ever.

I think this game is as difficult as they come, away from home against a good side.

Burnley do need to start picking up the odd win or two on their travels but Southampton have shown this season that if you do open up to them they can punish you, so I think Sean might try to keep it a bit more tight and cagey than against City.

It would be very unfair to drop anyone of the team that beat City so maybe it might just be a change to the tactics rather than to the line-up.

I’d certainly take a point now.
