SAM Vokes says strike partner Danny Ings is good enough to play for England, but could benefit from extra time.

After speculation about his chances of a call-up Ings was overlooked for Roy Hodgson’s latest Three Lions squad for upcoming games against Lithuania, in their final Euro 2016 qualifier, and a friendly with Italy at the end of the month.

In the end Tottenham’s 26-goal top scorer Harry Kane was the only player included in the 24-man selection for the first time, while Ings was named in Gareth Southgate’s England Under-21 squad.

But Vokes feels Ings will remain in the senior international frame.

“He’s at the stage where he’s definitely pushing and is good enough to be in at that level,” said Vokes.

“I’m sure over the next few years he’ll do that.

“If he keeps banging them in as he is, and putting in the performances, he’ll get his chance.

“Danny brings something different to what they’ve got now.”
