I THINK it was a case of after the Lord Mayor’s trial by video on Saturday.

After a week in which pretty much all and sundry queued up to take a pop at Ashley Barnes, the game against Swansea City was either going to go one way or the other.

And unfortunately for us, it went the other.

In a match in which neither side really did enough to warrant all three points, Swansea had a stroke of luck that we dropped in their lap, quite literally.

Our weakness at defending set pieces looked to be behind us until midway through the second half. What followed will probably delight and then haunt Clarets keeper Tom Heaton.

Bafétimbi Gomis found himself free to head a corner to the back post where Jack Cork’s shot was tipped superbly onto the bar by Heaton.

Unfortunately for the former United stopper the ball bounced down, hit Kieran Trippier on the thigh, dropped into his arms and then squirmed out again over the line.

Sean Dyche said he felt the game was slowing to a 0-0 and that probably would have been a fair result.

Visiting keeper Łukasz Fabiański made a couple of decent saves from Ashley Barnes but none that you wouldn’t expect a top flight custodian to deal with.

We need to start turning these performances, which aren’t bad by any stretch of the imagination, into wins.

We have a tough run of games now starting with a trip to Liverpool on Wednesday and also features a home game against Manchester City and a trip to Southampton before the month is out.

On paper most pundits wouldn’t give us a hope but we’ve proved that we can pick up points when people least expect it. I just wish we would marry that up with some points against those around us.
