TELEVISION pundit Paul Merson refused to give Burnley any credit for drawing at Premier League leaders Chelsea on Saturday.

Merson has been an outspoken critic of the Clarets for most of the season and backed up Jose Mourinho’s complaints about Ashley Barnes’ challenge on Nemanja Matic, as well as Chelsea’s claims for two penalties in the first half.

Even overlooking those incidents, he was surprisingly reluctant to praise Burnley at all for the way they secured a point at Stamford Bridge.

“I can’t give them any praise for that if I’m being honest,” he said.

“They were absolutely dominated, they had a go but they were dominated, Chelsea were having chance after chance in the second half.

“I watched Burnley at Man United and they probably should have won the game.

“I watched them today and they looked well out of their depth.

“Then they get by with a sending off, I can’t sit here and give credit for that.

“I’m not giving them credit for a geezer who could have broken the lad’s leg and they get a result through that.

“That’s how they get a result because at 11 v 11 they couldn’t have scored a goal in a month of Sundays, so I’m not giving credit for that.

“They always worked their socks off, they stayed in the game, Chelsea should have finished it off but didn’t.

“When they got the player sent off they did punish them, it’s a good header and then I give them credit after that. When it went 1-1 they didn’t sit back and play 10 behind the ball.

“If anyone should have won it could have been Burnley but it was a bad tackle.

“That’s not the way to play football and I just don’t like that.”
