WATCHING Bradford come from behind to beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday brought back memories of our own giant-killing run of a few years ago.

And it gave me plenty to ponder as we look ahead to the business end of the Premier League season.

MORE TOP STORIES:

Firstly, we’re a top flight team again. That in itself is something to celebrate and to marvel at.

The year of the so-called Capital Punishment campaign, which saw us knock out Arsenal, Chelsea and Fulham before a brave exit to Spurs in the League Cup, we won promotion to the Premier League but lasted just a season. I don’t think then we could have expected to be back in the top-flight just a few short years later.

Secondly, the heroics of Bradford – and equally Middlesbrough and Cambridge United among others this weekend, shows just what a funny old game football is.

No-one will have given any of those teams a prayer going into their matches but all defied the odds and proved that sheer hard work can be enough to beat any team on the day.

We need to summon that kind of spirit in our remaining matches if our stay in the Premier League is to be extended.

I think we’re all pretty happy with the way things have panned out – perhaps aside from the defeat at West Brom and the last home game against Crystal Palace – and I have said many times before that I genuinely think we’ll survive.

We have the players willing to run a mile further than the opposition. We have a manager whose stock has never been higher but who remains as grounded as ever. These are two things that money can’t really buy you.

The transfer window has been a quiet one for us so far which shouldn’t come as a massive surprise but I’m pretty sure that is no reflection of the hard work going on behind the scenes.

We’ve come this far without needing to smash wage structures or break the bank and that has to be admired.

We’re not tight, we’re careful and if that secures the long term future of the club – while giving us a chance at top flight survival – then that’s fine by me!
