I’M pleased that Scotland are taking a look at Scott Arfield, but I think he needs to be a bit more consistent to get in the squad.

He blows and a bit hot and cold at times, although he took his goals against QPR brilliantly.

He’s a player who gives 100 per cent in everything he does and we have to remember this is his first season in the Premier League, he is learning every week and I’m sure that consistency will come.

The defeat to Crystal Palace last Saturday was hugely disappointing. I thought we started indifferently so I was very surprised when we were 2-0 up.

If we’d held on we would have gone 12th, which just shows how tight it is at the bottom of the league.

We conceded some very poor and very sloppy goals. We looked shaky at the back, which is something we haven’t done really until recently.

We’ve looked good defensively and that seemed to be a strong point, but the last two games we’ve been poor and we conceded some goals in the game against Newcastle on New Year’s Day as well that were pretty soft.

We have to be better defensively and I’m sure that is something Sean Dyche and the coaches will be working on.

It’s a bad time to start looking shaky at the back as we’re going to need to be strong defensively in the final few weeks of the season if we are to have a chance of surviving in the Premier League come May.

The transfer window closes a week on Monday and I hope Burnley can still do some business before then.

I think we’re fairly well covered in most departments actually, but we could do with a bit of extra strength in midfield.

Ideally I’d like us to go after a midfielder with a bit of pace and creativity going forward, which is perhaps something we haven’t really got at the moment and something that will shore up the numbers in the squad.
