DANNY Ings has revealed he is not currently in discussions with Burnley over a new contract, but insists he is focused on helping the Clarets stay in the Premier League this season.

The 22-year-old’s deal expires in the summer and he has been linked with a move to other Premier League sides, as well as a switch abroad to David Moyes’ Real Sociedad.

Ings scored his seventh goal of the season on Saturday to put Burnley 2-0 up against Crystal Palace, only for Sean Dyche’s side to see an advantage slip away for the second time in a week.

Dyche, co-chairman Mike Garlick and chief executive Lee Hoos have all said that the England Under-21 striker won’t be sold during the January transfer window, but he could leave when his contract expires at the end of the season, and if he goes abroad Burnley will only be entitled to around £200,000 in compensation.

Yesterday Ings was a guest on Sky Sports’ Goals on Sunday programme, and asked if he was talking to the club about a new deal he said: “To be honest no.

“I’m just getting on with my football.

“With social media and all of that outside noise there is going to be speculation about any player who is doing well for their club.

“When I came up with Burnley I had my mind set on that I had a job to do in helping to keep Burnley up.

“My contract is running until the end of the season and I’m happy with that. I’ve got a massive task ahead of me and so have the team and I’m just focusing on that.”

Since the start of January Ings has scored three times in four games, suggesting the speculation about his future is not having an impact on his performances, and the Clarets top scorer will be integral to their chances of securing a second season in the top flight.

“I’m a player who will take massive confidence from the speculation,” he said.

“All that stuff (any January offers) is all behind the scenes with the board, I don’t get caught up in all of that.

“It’s all about the football, I will let my feet do the talking and I’m happy at the moment and I’m just doing my thing.”

Ings is one of five English strikers to have scored at least seven times in the Premier League this season, and he will be vying with fellow uncapped strikers Charlie Austin, Harry Kane and Saido Berahino for a call-up to Roy Hodgson’s next Three Lions squad in March.

He backed his former team-mate Austin for a place in that squad, and said he would take any opportunity he gets ‘with both hands’.

“I’ve known Charlie for years, he’s a good friend of mine and 13 goals is fantastic,” said Ings.

“He will score at any level for any team and the way he’s going I’d be very surprised if he doesn’t get a call in the next squad.

“I’ve played with Saido and Harry. They are two fantastic strikers, they’re different and they’re a pleasure to work with.

“Harry has been fantastic for Tottenham, I saw him in the week and we had a good catch-up, and Saido is doing the same for his club. It’s promising for English football when you have a lot of young players coming through.

“If an opportunity ever comes up for me I’m planning to take it with both hands, because it’s not about getting a call-up and that’s it, it’s about getting a call-up and then staying in that squad, and that’s what I’m aiming for.”
