KIERAN Trippier admitted two defensive mistakes proved costly as Burnley were beaten 2-1 at Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

The Clarets were always in the game at White Hart Lane but a quick free kick caught out the Burnley defence for Harry Kane’s opener, despite protests of offside.

Sean Dyche’s men levelled thanks to Ashley Barnes’ stunner but Erik Lamela quickly put Spurs back in front after being allowed to cut inside too easily on his stronger left foot.

“It’s a difficult place to come but we started well and gave two goals away that weren’t really to our standards,” right back Trippier admitted.

“I thought we bounced back well to come back to 1-1, but the second goal was a cheap goal to give away for the standards that we have been setting recently.

“It’s frustrating but it’s a mistake. We’ll let it go, review it and learn from our mistakes.

“In the second half we came out and played well, but it didn’t happen for us. We’ll move on now for Boxing Day.”

Burnley host Liverpool on Boxing Day before travelling to Trippier’s old club Manchester City on December 28.

Liverpool will go into the game without Fabio Borini, who was sent off in yesterday’s 2-2 draw at home to Arsenal.

Mario Balotelli will be available though after serving a one-match ban for his recent controversial Twitter post.

Martin Skrtel struck a 97th-minute equaliser for Liverpool against the Gunners. Philippe Coutinho had put them in front but Mathieu Debuchy and Olivier Giroud responded.
