The Bees now incredibly lie third in the second tier after first-half goals from Alex Pritchard, Andre Gray and Jota put them in total control at Cardiff on Saturday.

Craig Noone and Kenwyne Jones pulled goals back for the hosts, but the visitors held on to make it seven wins from their last eight games.

Pundits have questioned whether Brentford have the staying power to achieve back-to-back promotions, but manager Warburton has highlighted Burnley as an example for his men to follow.

He said: “When people say things like that we use Burnley as an example.

“I know (Burnley manager) Sean Dyche well and they were a team who had one of the smaller budgets in the division, but did magnificently well.

“Everyone said Burnley worked hard and they were committed and no-one spoke about their quality.

“The same goes for us. Everyone sees us as honest and committed and that is great for us. It means we can go about our business and hopefully in May we will be in good shape.

“We are in good shape right now and I think we deserve to be where we are, we have been delivering good performances.”

Warburton was impressed with his side’s ability on the ball, but was equally pleased by how they held off a ferocious second-half fightback.

“We told the players an onslaught was coming at half time, but we saw it out,” he said.
