DANNY Ings struck twice in the space of a minute to move Burnley off the bottom of the Premier League table as they claimed their second successive victory.

The Clarets secured their first win in the top flight at the 11th attempt at home to Hull City a fortnight ago and they were victorious again against Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium this afternoon.

Ings scored in both the 12th and 13th minutes and Burnley then defended superbly to hang on for all three points, despite Jonathan Walters pulling a goal back before half time.

The Clarets led when Ashley Barnes fired in a low cross shot from the left. Asmir Begovic parried the ball as Michael Kightly lurked, but the ball fell to Ings to convert from six yards.

Just a minute later and it was 2-0 as Kightly – starting in place of the injured Scott Arfield against his old club - darted superbly the left wing and crossed for Ings to turn home again from close range.

George Boyd was then denied by Begovic but Stoke hit back in the 32nd minute as Bojan Krkic whipped in a fine cross from the right and Jonathan Walters stooped to beat Jason Shackell to a diving header.

Tom Heaton almost did enough to produce a fine save, but the ball still found the corner. Stoke were pushing for an equaliser and Heaton saved from Victor Moses before Mame Biram Diouf nodded marginally wide from a Bojan centre early in the second half.

Substitute Peter Crouch also headed just wide from another Bojan cross, with Sidwell unable to turn home at the far post.

Heaton then saved a low 20-yard effort from another sub, Charlie Adam, although Burnley substitute Lukas Jutkiewicz forced a save from Begovic at the other end. Begovic then went up for a corner and nearly netted an equaliser in injury time, heading wide at the far post.
