DANNY Ings believes training alongside England’s senior squad at St George’s Park can only help the Under-21’s achieve their personal ambitions.

Burnley's Ings has been at the Burton facility with Gareth Southgate’s squad this week as they prepare for tonight’s U21 friendly against Portugal at Turf Moor.

Michael Keane and Nathaniel Chalobah are also in contention to feature on their home ground against England’s fellow Euro 2015 finalists.

With Roy Hodgson’s senior side also based at St George’s Park ahead of Saturday’s Wembley clash with Slovenia, Ings and co have been able to view the England stars at close quarters..

"The pitches are fantastic, all the staff are great and everything in terms of recovery that you could possibly need is here," said Ings who has one Premier League goal so far this season.

“There are no excuses with this facility, there is everything that every footballer needs to improve.

“We train pretty close to the senior team, so we get to see how they train and how quick it is, which is great for young players to be able to see what they are aiming for.

“We all stay in the same hotel so you see one or two of the lads from the senior team about, but we’re on a different floor to them. It’s great to be have that goal to aim for, it’s a lot of hard work but hopefully with the experience you pick up and if you play well doors might open.”

The U21s travel to the Czech Republic next summer for the European Championships and Ings, who has won six caps at this level and scored two goals, is desperate to be in the squad.

“Any chance you get to play for your country is brilliant,” added the 22-year-old, “I only see the possibility of being involved as a positive.

"Any young player that can get an experience like that will benefit from it.

"You are playing against the best Under 21 players in Europe."
