SEAN Dyche hopes the expected return of Danny Ings and co will help Burnley secure their first win of the season against West Ham United tomorrow.

The Clarets moved off the bottom of the Premier League table a fortnight ago with a 2-2 draw at Leicester City, despite the absence of several key players through injury.

But last season’s top scorer Ings is due to return for tomorrow’s home game against West Ham United together with David Jones and Nathaniel Chalobah, while Kieran Trippier looks to have shaken off the ankle injury that forced him off at the King Power Stadium.

Dean Marney (hamstring) and Steven Reid (groin) are expected to remain on the sidelines, while Michael Keane (hamstring) remains a doubt and Matt Taylor will miss the clash with his former club because he needs an operation on his Achilles.

Dyche, however, is pleased that the injury list is starting to shorten and hopes that the likes of Ings and Jones will provide a valuable boost as Burnley seek their first victory of the campaign.

“We hope it makes us stronger,” said the Burnley boss.

“It brings a demand back into the squad.

“Ingsy is back in definite contention.

“He’s had a good week with us.

“He managed to get on the grass at the beginning of the week, which was important because he’s been fit to train with the group rather than throwing him in at the last minute.

“Tripps has had a good couple of days this week and comes back into contention, and Jonah will be fit.

“Dean Marney is touch and go.

“Maybe this one is too quick for him, but he’s been active this week.”

Ings and Sam Vokes scored 47 goals between them last season and Dyche admits being without both of them in recent weeks – Vokes remains at least a couple of months from a return – has been a blow.

“Forty seven goals from two centre forwards is a big hit to anyone,” he said.

“We’ve seen the Liverpool situation with Suarez and Sturridge - obviously one leaving, one injured. It does have an effect on a team of course.

“We know we’re evolving as a team but you’ve got to win games, we know that, that’s the business we’re in.

“At some point you’ve got to win games so we look to the next one to do that.

“We had a year unbeaten at home so we know we’ve made Turf Moor a tough place for teams to come but we have gone up a level.”

Taylor was on the scoresheet for West Ham when the Londoners last visited Turf Moor for a League Cup clash last season, but he faces a spell on the sidelines because of a persistent Achilles problem.

Dyche said: “Matty Taylor unfortunately is going to have a minor operation. He’s got a niggling Achilles and it just hasn’t settled down.

“It’s nothing too serious in the grand scheme of things, but something that’s niggling.

“It’s just a small bony area at the back of his Achilles which is irritating it, so that’s going to have to be done.

“We’re not sure how long he will be out for. We’ll know more after the op we’re hopeful he’ll go in Monday.

“It’s nothing threatening or anything, it’s just something that’s annoying his Achilles and needs sorting out.”
