BURNLEY have the second cheapest season ticket of all 20 Premier League clubs, according to a new survey.

The £329 season ticket at Turf Moor is only beaten by £299 at Manchester City, while the club’s most expensive season ticket, at £685, is only higher than six other top-flight clubs.

However, the BBC Sport Price of Football study found that generally the average price of the cheapest tickets across English football has risen at almost twice the rate of the cost of living since 2011.

In the Premier League the cheapest match day ticket has risen 15.8 per cent in the past three years, although in the Championship it is down 3.2 per cent.

Only three clubs in the Championship have a cheaper season ticket than Blackburn Rovers' lowest of £249.

Dave Burnley, who follows the Clarets home and away, said the cost of going to most games was becoming beyond the reach of most fans.

“Prices are generally too high,” he said. “When you are having to pay the top prices for tickets it’s out of the reach for most supporters.”

So far though he has found the cost of following Burnley in the Premier League cheaper than it was five years ago.

“In the 2009/10 season it was extortionate,” he said. “It was over £50 at Old Trafford and around £35 at Liverpool, Tottenham and Arsenal.

“This season it hasn’t been too bad. We are listed as a Category C game at most places because we are being written off, and it has been £20 to £25 a ticket at West Brom and Leicester.

“Arsenal is only £26, and it’s just £11.25 for over 65s and £10 for under 16s, which for the team with the most expensive tickets is very good.

“One way to bring the prices down, especially for travelling fans, is to have a reciprocal agreement on the price of tickets, which is something I think Burnley and Swansea have done this year.”

The cheapest season ticket at the Emirates Stadium is an eye-watering £1,014, which is £249 higher than the next most expensive at Tottenham Hotspur.

The cheapest match day ticket at Turf Moor is £35, with only Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea having a more expensive lowest priced ticket.

However the most expensive match day seat at the ground is £42, which is only higher than West Brom, Sunderland and Crystal Palace.

Anybody wanting a cup of tea at Turf Moor is in for a bargain though, with the Clarets and Manchester City serving the lowest priced brews in the Premier League at £1.80.

In League Two Accrington Stanley have the third cheapest season ticket, at £200, lowered only by Dagenham and Redbridge and Hartlepool United.

A match day ticket cost of £20 at the Store First Stadium is £1.79 higher than the division’s average, with tickets ranging from £15 at Bury, Burton Albion and Tranmere, to £22 at Northampton Town and Plymouth Argyle.
