GEORGE Boyd believes Burnley’s move off the bottom of the Premier League table has provided them with a crucial boost as they prepare for back-to-back home games after the international break.

The Clarets dropped to the bottom of the table after a potentially demoralising 4-0 defeat at West Bromwich Albion 10 days ago but responded in determined fashion by claiming a dramatic late draw at Leicester City on Saturday.

The result moved Burnley back off the foot of the Premier League, with QPR losing 2-0 at West Ham United on Sunday.

Now they get ready for successive home games against West Ham and Everton, on October 18 and 26 respectively, with renewed optimism.

While the Clarets are trying not to pay too much attention to the league table at this stage of the season, midfielder Boyd admits it is no bad thing to be off the bottom – particularly as defeat at Leicester would have left the club on a real downer.

“It’s great going into the international break,” Boyd said.

“It would have been terrible to go in with another defeat.

“A point was good for us on Saturday and we can build on it with two home games now.

“We always had the belief. The West Bromwich Albion game was a blip and the performance the week before (against Sunderland) deserved much more.”

Boyd believes the end of the club’s 655-minute goal drought in the 2-2 draw will also boost confidence.

“Getting goals always helps the confidence and it was a fantastic free kick from Ross at the end,” said the former Hull man.

“I hear he did it in pre-season against Verona so he’s got it in his locker.

“Everyone has seen that Saturday was more like it from us.

“Our work ethic was there and it was a good team performance.

“It was a fantastic feeling to get a point, and it was the least we deserved.”

Burnley hope to welcome back Danny Ings, David Jones, Dean Marney and Nathaniel Chalobah from injury against West Ham, with Sean Dyche also optimistic that Kieran Trippier will be available after limping off on Saturday.

West Ham also expect their own injury crisis to ease in time for the Turf Moor clash, after seven players missed their win over QPR.

Hammers co-chairman David Gold said on Twitter that Sam Allardyce should have a fully fit squad bar Andy Carroll, who is absent with an ankle injury.

The likes of James Collins, Cheikhou Kouyate and Joey O’Brien are all set to return.
