DANNY Ings is expected to be out for around four weeks after picking up a hamstring injury at Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Ings limped off shortly before half time in the goalless draw at Selhurst Park after pulling up clutching his right hamstring as he stretched to control the ball.

The Clarets have been assessing the injury this week and are expected to confirm today how long he will be out, but initial indications suggest that Ings could miss their next three matches.

Burnley host Sunderland at the weekend before travelling to West Bromwich Albion on September 28 and Leicester City on October 4. All three games are against teams the Clarets will be hoping to compete with for Premier League survival so the absence of last season’s top scorer would be a major blow to boss Sean Dyche.

Ings is also expected to miss England under 21s’ European Championship play-off double header against Croatia next month, with Burnley’s home game against West Ham United on October 18 a potential comeback date.

Marvin Sordell is in contention to take his place in the starting line-up against Sunderland, after replacing Ings as a substitute at Selhurst Park.
