BURNLEY boss Sean Dyche believes joint club record signing George Boyd will bring extra ‘quality’ to his side.

Boyd signed from Hull City for £3million on deadline day and the attacking midfielder will add more creativity to a Clarets side which has only scored once in their first three games.

The former Peterborough man made 29 Premier League appearances for the Tigers last season, and Dyche thinks his creativity and ability in front of a goal, with 113 goals in 483 career games, will be a key asset.

“He’s got very good energy and quality,” he said. “He can score and make a goal which everyone needs in our team.”

Boyd achieved his big breakthrough with a loan move to Hull for the second half of the 2012/13 season, helping them secure promotion from the Championship, and the move was made permanent at the end of that season.

He impressed in the top flight last season and Dyche thinks there is even more to come, as he seeks to add to his two Scotland caps.

“He brings something different,” he said. “He's matured as a player and there's still more to come I feel.

“He'll add to the mentality of the group, he's a very solid professional and as a person. He comes very well recommend from people that have worked with him.”

Boyd was one of three new additions on deadline day, alongside young loaness Michael Keane and Nathaniel Chalobah.

Dyche said the additions will add to the balance of what is almost a completely British squad, although that is not something he has targeted deliberately.

“I'm not bothered where players come from,” he added.

“I'd like them to be British for obvious reasons because I'd like the national side to get stronger but if there was a great German player who we could recruit properly then we would.

“It's just by chance that our recruitment is based around English players because we know more about them.

“The group dynamic is important to us and we wanted to find that balance between young, middle and old.

“Him (Chalobah) and Michael are the younger end of the market, still developing and still learning.

“But they're not bought in just for their development, they're bought in to challenge the group and themselves. They're brought to be on the team-sheet and as part of the group.”

All three new signings are available for selection for tomorrow’s match at Crystal Palace, but Keane and Chalobah only trained for the first time yesterday (Thursday) after spending the week away on England Under-21 duty, alongside Danny Ings.

Boyd has spent longer training with his new teammates though, and he is the only one likely to feature from the start at Selhurst Park.

“It's who we think is appropriate for the game,” said Dyche.

“We like the players to understand the format and how we expect the team to operate and I think they do.

“It may take a bit more time for them to get the real detail of how we work but they'll have a handle on us. If we deem it appropriate for them to play they will.

“The two young lads have only just got in so obviously I'll be thinking a little bit more flexibility with them.

“But Boyd is a mature player and has been around for 10 days now so he's got a real feel about how we operate and what we do.”
