MIDFIELDER Scott Arfield’s opener against Chelsea was not enough to cause a Premier League upset on Burnley’s return to the top flight.
But the Scot’s strike against Jose Mourinho’s men – on his Premier League debut, has been picked for the top 10 in a national newspaper.
In selecting her best goals for the new season’s first month, The Times sports journalist Alyson Rudd wrote: “The Scottish midfielder’s smoothly struck volley only served to provoke Chelsea, but it was an elegant way for Burnley to mark their return.”
Other goals which made the cut include West Ham’s Mauro Zarate, who picked a clearance out of the sky to volley past Crystal Palace keeper Julian Speroni, and Lee Cattermole’s opener in Sunderland’s 2-2 draw at West Brom – a 30-yard strike into the top corner.
