Clarets to offer keeper Heaton new contract

Lancashire Telegraph: Clarets to offer keeper Heaton new contract Clarets to offer keeper Heaton new contract

BURNLEY are set to secure goalkeeper Tom Heaton on a new contract before the Premier League season begins.

The Clarets stopper signed a two-year deal to complete his free transfer from Bristol City last summer, with an option for it to be extended to 2016.

MORE TOP STORIES:

But talks have already been held with the 28-year-old during the summer months over fresh terms, after the stopper notched up 19 Championship clean sheets in their promotion season.

And it is likely that Heaton will put pen to paper on a new deal after Burnley return from their pre-season tour of Austria next week.

That would take the number of existing recognised first team players who have committed their futures to the club to three, post promotion, after striker Sam Vokes signed an extension to 2017 in January.

Kieran Trippier agreed terms in the summer, while upon returning to pre-season training Scott Arfield was also rewarded for his impressive first season at Turf Moor, with both being tied up to the end of the 2016/17 season.

Luke O’Neill has yet to make a senior league start but manager Sean Dyche has seen enough potential in the right back to also put him on a new two-year deal.

But Dyche does not expect that to be the end of his internal business, while still operating in the transfer market to strengthen his squad for the top flight.

“Some naturally came into play because of the success side of things. Tripps is a really important one because I think people were wondering,” said the Burnley boss.

“There are ongoing talks with others. Some had things in their contracts, some are negotiables, so it’s ongoing with the other players as well.”

Danny Ings’ contract situation has come under the spotlight as he prepares to go into the last of his four-year deal.

But after telling the Lancashire Telegraph earlier this month that he was looking forward to his debut Premier League season with Burnley, he has reiterated that he is happy at Turf Moor.

“I don’t understand why it’s gone crazy on social media and stuff,” he said.

“I signed a four-year contract when I came here and I’ve still got a year left.

“I don’t feel like there should be any panic. I’m just enjoying my football.

“Everybody knows I love playing for Burnley Football Club.

“It’s a fantastic family club, the staff are fantastic – from the gaffer to the players – it’s a fantastic club and I’m not looking to leave.”

Of this year’s out-of-contract players both Michael Duff and Danny Lafferty have signed new deals.

Development squad players Steven Hewitt and Tom Anderson have earned new contracts, with midfielder Hewitt penning a two-year deal and defender Anderson 12 months.

At least the players you mention will be on our pitch. They won't be anywhere near yours unless you get lucky in a cup comp.
Incidentally if the highlight of your season is going to be watching Burnley on MOTD what does that say about your average Rovers fan? If you are indeed representative. As the man said, nothing going on her (at Bollywood).
