BURNLEY co-chairman John Banaszkiewicz believes the Clarets have proved that football is not all about money after sealing their promotion to the Premier League.

Banaszkiewicz and Mike Garlick took on the roles of joint chairmen in the summer of 2012, appointing Sean Dyche as manager months later before seeing the Clarets rise to the top flight in their second season at the helm.

“To finish second in a very competitive league is unbelievable,” said Banaszkiewicz, with Leicester expected to seal the title at Bolton tonight.

“It’s absolutely fantastic, what a performance.

“We’ve had a great season, we were written off at the start of the season, we were supposed to be going down.

“We came 11th last season and if we improved on that and got in the play-offs, that to us would have been a bit of a dream scenario.

“To do what we’ve done is incredible, particularly on the budget we’ve set.

“We’ve actually done a good job here, me and Mike, breaking even, compared to a lot of clubs losing money hand over fist.

“It’s not all about money.”

Banaszkiewicz heaped praise on Dyche, who was appointed in October 2012 after a rigorous interview process.

“A lot of it is down to the manager and to the players as well,” said the lifelong Burnley fan, who is also the managing director of Freight Investor Services.

“It’s a tight knit squad, they’ve all been playing very well together.

“The manager has got the best out of the team so he’s managed to perform a little miracle.

“We interviewed 18 people for the job and he actually came in with a PowerPoint presentation, which is quite unusual for a manager.

“But he certainly knew how to sort out our little fortress at the back because we were letting a lot of goals in, and you could tell he had all the attributes.

“He’s not only good on the pitch, he’s good off the pitch too, he wants to get involved in everything, sales, commercial, marketing!

“He’s a businessman, I actually offered him a job at FIS if he ever wanted to try a new career!”

Thoughts will now turn to Burnley’s prospects in the Premier League next season.

“We’ve just got to try to stay up now and that’s the objective,” Banaszkiewicz said.

“We were up there four years ago and hopefully we’ve learned a little bit from that and it’s a whole different ball game. We’ll be focused.”
