WELL that result has certainly made things interesting hasn’t it?

Home defeats are a bit like buses it seems – you don’t have one for ages and then two come along at once.

It really was a game we should not have lost and to be honest we did everything but score!

In fact, we could have still been playing now and we wouldn’t have notched one.

But there is certainly no need to hit the panic button, we’re still eight points clear of Derby with four games to go.

And we created enough chances against Boro to win those four games but just couldn’t find a way past Dimi Konstantopoulos.

Danny Ings had a great chance early on.

Michael Kightly hit the bar with a header and Ashley Barnes nodded the rebound wide before the break and as we went in at half time it looked like there would only be one winner.

Our inability to craft a decent corner routine cost us six minutes into the second half and after one failed to clear the first man, a hopeful hoof upfield from Danny Graham was miscued by Scott Arfield and eventually ended up in the Burnley net.

Lee Tomlin surged towards the box and teed up Jacob Butterfield who fired a neat shot past a helpless Tom Heaton.

We continued to press and ask questions of the visitors but Konstantopoulos pulled off a string of fine saves – the best from a deflected Ross Wallace effort – to deny us the chance to all but secure promotion.

On a more positive note, it was wonderful to see Gary Parkinson back at the Turf with his old mate David Eyres.

Parky, as I am sure everyone knows, suffers from locked-in syndrome following a stroke but it was remarkable how well he looked.

He has a special part in the history of this football club – and at Middlesbrough – and the reception he received from both sets of fans was very touching.

It’s a shame we couldn’t seal promotion for Parky – in much the same way as he did 20 years ago at Wembley – but hopefully he’ll have something to celebrate after the Easter weekend.

The task for us is simple – five points from our last four games will see us in the Premier League.
