Brendan Flood set to return to Burnley board
BRENDAN Flood is set to return to the Burnley board.
The club’s former operational director stepped down last year but has formerly notified the club’s board, including co-chairmen John Banaszkiewicz and Mike Garlick, of his intention to return as a director.
Rossendale-born businessman Flood relinquished his position after six years in January 2013 due to personal finance issues which led to him taking out an Individual Voluntary Arrangment (IVA), which has subsequently run out.
Flood stayed away from the club for the remainder of last season, but retained a 25 per cent shareholding.
He has had a more regular presence at Burnley’s games, home and away, this season.
Although he bought a season ticket at Turf Moor he has accepted invitations into the directors’ box.
And he is set to resume a more hands-on role at the club by adding to the recently increased boardroom numbers, subject to ratification from the Football League.
Soon after stepping down last year Flood told the Lancashire Telegraph that he would not consider a return unless there were boardroom changes.
Brian Nelson was made the club’s fifth director late last year, and Burnley-born entrepreneur Terry Crabb was this week announced as the club’s sixth director, subject to the necessary paperwork.
Flood would become the seventh director, with no immediate plans to make further boardroom additions.
At a shareholders’ meeting in December Banaszkiewicz said they were in talks with Flood about a return.
“We are in discussion with Brendan about him coming back on board,” he said. “I am a partner with Brendan on the university (UCFB) which is going incredibly well.
“He has a 25 per cent of the shares so he would like to still be part of the board and we are in the process of discussing it.”
That process has moved a step closer, with further developments expected next week.
It is not yet clear whether he will once more hold the title of operational director.
