THERE were boos at the final whistle at Turf Moor as Burnley became only the second Championship side in 18 games to lose to Huddersfield Town.

The Clarets had the better of the first half but a low shot on the turn from Keith Treacy was the only time Terriers goalkeeper Alex Smithies was tested.

And Burnley were made to pay the price 10 minutes into the second half as James Vaughan poked home from close range, after Lee Grant could only parry Adam Clayton's initial shot from the edge of the box.

Dane Richards came on to make his home and Football League debut in the 15th minute, following injury to Dean Marney.

But the Jamaican international was substituted on the hour for targetman Sam Vokes, who went on to steer a header against the crossbar.

Danny Ings came close to snatching a stoppage time equaliser after being sent clear by Danny Lafferty. But it was the only time Smithies was called into action after the Clarets conceded, and he answered the call.

After the defeat Burnley boss Sean Dyche said: "That was unacceptable and we've made the players aware of that. We just weren't ourselves tonight."
