Trippier: 'Clarets are no one man team'

KIERAN Trippier insists Burnley have not become over-reliant on top scorer Charlie Austin.

But the defender (pictured left) has warned the Clarets cannot afford to keep squan-dering chances.

Burnley have picked up just one point this season when Austin has played but not been among the goals.

Indeed, they have only scored three goals in those games – two of them consolations.

The 21-goal striker draw a blank at Nottingham Forest on Saturday, and so did Burnley in a 2-0 defeat.

But Trippier insists the Clarets have got enough attacking options to ensure the focus doesn’t fall solely on the former Swindon Town hotshot.

“Charlie’s doing what he’s doing, but we’ve got plenty of players to contribute,” said the right back.

“Ross Wallace, Junior (Stanislas) and Vokesy (Sam Vokes) to score goals, like he did against Blackburn.

“We've got a lot of players who can score, we're not just relying on Charlie, but if he gets an opportunity he'll put the ball in the back of the net.”

Trippier felt the Clarets had the better of a tight first half against Forest in terms of goalmouth action, but paid the ultimate price for not making any of those efforts count as the home side scored twice in the second half, without reply.

“It was frustrating. The first half we got the ball wide and got a lot of delivery in the box and I thought we deserved to be 1-0 up at half-time,” said the former Manchester City youngster.

“They came out flying and the first goal killed us.

“We'd had plenty of opportunities to get into the lead but we didn't do that.

“In these kind of games you need to be clinical but we didn't do that and they were on top of us after the first goal.”

But Trippier it was a controversial opener for Dexter Blackstock, who pushed down on Jason Shackell's shoulders for elevation to meet a cross with a firm header. However, he felt the Clarets had enough time to get back into the game.

“From what I've seen it was a foul but the referee's not given it and you can't change his decision," he said.

“That's football and we've got to get on with it.

“We could have got back into the game after going behind but it didn't happen for us and it just wasn't our day.

“We've been on a decent run but we needed the first goal.

“It was crucial. Forest got it and put lots of pressure on us and unfortunately got the second and it was hard for us to get back in the game.”

What are you talking about!!! Do you not understand concepts like confidence, motivation, expectation? What do you expect the players (and manager) to say? You aren't going to be content until one of the players says "we are a small team in the Championship and are lucky to stay in this league, its a battle every season just to stay out of the bottom 3". I really hope someone does reply to one of your many desperate bland attempts on the Rovers pages. God knows you could do with the boost to your self esteem. I've seen more natural wit and charisma on a Paddy McGuinness DVD. You're THAT boring.

Try studying what the other (more successful) Bonleh posters do. They can help you.
