We have the better striker and we can win, says Trippier
7:59am Thursday 29th November 2012 in News
By Suzanne Geldard, Burnley FC reporter
KIERAN Trippier believes the time is right for Burnley to end over three decades of hurt and get one over bitter rivals Rovers this weekend.
It was 1979 when the Clarets last took three points from the East Lancashire showdown.
But Trippier feels the wait could be over on Sunday when the two teams go head to head in the Championship.
Both are under new management, following the appointment of Sean Dyche at Turf Moor and Henning Berg at Ewood Park in the same week.
Both boast two of the brightest strikers outside of the Premier League, in the shape of Charlie Austin and Jordan Rhodes. But Trippier thinks Burnley have the best.
“You look at Char-lie and you look at Jordan Rhodes, they’re both goalscorers but Charlie’s record is outstanding,” said the right back.
“I can’t see why he can’t get 35-40 goals this season. He’s got the right attitude and I think he can go far.
“I think we’ve got the better striker.
“Don’t get me wrong, Rhodes is doing well and he’s a very good player, but I think we’ve got the better striker.”
Rhodes became a wanted man after scoring 40 goals in 46 games to help Huddersfield win promotion to the Championship last season.
An £8million signing for Rovers in August, the 22-year-old has gone on to score 14 in 21 appearances, including three goals for Scotland and two for Huddersfield before his record transfer.
But for a long spell Austin was the top scorer in Europe, having reached 20 goals by November 6.
However, Trippier believes it will be Burnley’s team ethic that will set them apart on Sunday.
“Over the years they might have had a stronger team than Burnley but I think we’re equal this year,” he said.
“I think we’re more hungry. With the new manager we want to go places and I think with the players we’ve got we can go places, and when they come here on Sunday they’ll be in for a tough game.”
And Trippier admits he is relishing the derby.
“I didn’t realise how big it was until I came here, but I realise how much it means to the Burnley fans.
“We haven’t beaten them for such a long time but this is the year I think we can do them.
“I’ve heard it’s even better than the Manchester derby.
“I played in a Yorkshire derby for Barnsley against Leeds and that was incredible, but I’ve heard this is absolutely brilliant and ruthless so I’m looking forward to it.”

I mean come on, you were an established Premier League side a few months ago and now you are a struggling Championship town team with poor attendances and a mediocre team.

How many goals has Rhodes got in The Premier League for that matter - he has only been playing a few months in The Championship and yet you losers spunked the best part of £8 million on him.
Secretly you are all **** your pants at the fact that the only thing you have to cling onto is your stupid 34 years jibe at us - and you are about to lose that as well - Come Sunday it will be us saying 3 years since you beat us Blackburn.

HOW MANY GOALS HAS RHODES GOT THIS SEASON?? Not as many as Austin that is for sure, so good one on the 'Rhodes is better' rubbish.
Austin is a PROVEN Championship goalscorer - and so what if Rhodes can score goals for **** Scotland. Charlie also has a better scoring record in the Championship than your Crappy Jock has this season and overall, so run along back to your shanty town and get your banjo out hillbilly.

Jeez maths isn't good down at the pond is it??? Thud and blunder boy austin is having the season of his life. Rhodes is just doing what he always does, season in, season out. Thats why he is way better than your foundation layer. He has CONSISTENTLY scored at every level he has played at. It may be a long word for you, but break it up into smaller fly like chunks so you can get yer tongue round it froggy boy.

And i do have a job you pleb - it is one in an office (Surely you hve heard of one of those?) and we actually have computers (With internet access)_ on our desks?
Imagine that is a far cry from the community service that you are currently undertaking as a pennance for you being forced to resort to burgling to fund your heroin addiction.
Such a waste

Try to act a little less excited as your cup-final approaches.... you leave yourself wide open as to what this actually means to you and your fellow banjo playing swamp monsters, who have all been brainwashed into thinking their cardboard cut out football club is remotely important....

Its funny y'know, at one time most on here would have been impressed with someone who works in IT. Now people realise all they do is sort out email accounts, archiving, spreadsheets and data bases. All simple stuff. Its sad when you realise everyone has cottoned on to how easy it is. Next news your a redundant IT worker who comes on the Telegraph forums whilst you supposed to be looking for a new job. With all the other out of work over subscribed frog spawn. RIBBIT Sad but true
