SEAN Dyche has urged for a ‘one game at a time’ approach to a big week for Burnley.

The countdown is on to Sunday’s showdown with rivals Blackburn Rovers.

But midweek games for both teams could have a big impact on form and fortunes.

The Clarets were boosted by a first away win under Dyche, and third clean sheet in five games, in beating Hull City at the KC Stadium on Saturday, while Rovers failed to follow up a first win under new manager Henning Berg at Peterborough over a week ago by suffering a 2-0 defeat at home to in-form Millwall on Saturday.

Should Burnley win at Barnsley tonight (kick-off 7.45pm) and Blackburn slip up at home to Bolton Wanderers tomorrow, the Clarets could go into Sunday’s showdown ahead of rivals Rovers in the Championship table.

But Dyche (pictured) has warned against reading too much into possible outcomes.

“The Championship being what it is, there are some weird and wonderful results,” he said.

“An example from the weekend just gone was Bristol City going and winning 3-1 at Middlesbrough. You look at the runs both teams were on it was a difficult one to call – a coupon buster as they call it.

“Yet again that shows the nature of the division.

“You're aware of what teams are doing, of course, you're aware of the ups and downs and if they're in good form or not in good form, but you don't plan for that, it's just part of how it works in the Championship.

“I am looking forward to the derby, it will be my first taste of it,” he said.

“But there is other business to take care of before then.”

Dyche’s tactics for preparing to face Barnsley tonight are similar.

The Tykes have not won at home since September 1, while they have only picked up two points from their last seven Championship games.

But the Burnley boss is confident that if his side play to their own strengths, they will have nothing to fear.

“You have to be aware they're fighting to adjust their form while still also knowing what you're about and if you do it properly you're a force to be reckoned with,” said Dyche.

“We are always aware of the opposition and we deliver a presentation on the opposition to the players so they have an awareness of it, but most of our thinking will be about us and what we do.

“We'll be going there clear of mind after a good result at Hull in order to get another one.

“We'll go there ready and prepared and it's about delivering a performance as soon as the whistle blows.

“Performance levels have been good, and if you supply good performance levels there's a fair chance you'll get good results.”

He added: “I've been in a situation playing, coaching and managing where I've been on both sides of good and bad runs.

“What about the team that have won 10 on the trot and everyone says 'they've got to lose the 11th' and then it doesn't happen and they win 12 and 13?

“I don't think you can read too much into it.

“I certainly don't anyway, although I am aware of it.”

Dean Marney misses out tonight after picking up his fifth booking of the season at former club Hull, where he scored the winner.

Kieran Trippier is available after serving his one-match ban, but after a good performance by David Edgar at right back on Saturday Dyche admits he has been posed a selection headache.

“It's a great dilemma. You want players who are forcing themselves on the situation,” said the Burnley boss.

“I've spoken to a couple of players I've had to make changes with and explain I want them to be disappointed, just show it in the right manner, which they have done.

“The reality of the Championship is it's a squad game now and everyone will be called upon for many different reasons over a season, and I've had my fair share since I've been here.

“They are respectful of the squad mentality and that everyone plays a part, as David did coming in at right back after playing in midfield for our first game here.

“That flexibility has been helpful to him and helpful to us.”
