Lomas into Turf frame

BURNLEY’S joint chairmen have yet to agree on their next manager, the Lancashire Telegraph understands.
The Clarets chiefs have narrowed their search for Eddie Howe’s successor, with former Watford manager Sean Dyche and current Falkirk boss Steven Pressley heading the race for the hotseat.
But with John Banaszkiewicz and Mike Garlick understood to be favouring different managers, they were today set to be considering a third candidate – believed to be St Johnstone boss Steve Lomas – before making their decision.
Portsmouth’s Michael Appleton was an early favourite to become Burnley’s fifth manager in five years but did not make the final cut.
After stating they were looking for someone in a similar mould to Howe but “with maybe a bit more aggression” – characteristics which Appleton fulfils – it is believed the chairmen have since veered away from that idea.
Dyche turned Watford’s season around last term. Ironically a dramatic 3-2 win over Burnley kick-started a seven-game unbeaten run which relieved any relegation fears and ultimately resulted in an 11th placed finish – their best finish for four years.
However, Dyche, who had succeeded Malky Mackay at the helm in the summer of 2011, was controversially sacked by the Hornets 12 months later, paving the way for the appointment of Gianfranco Zola.
During his tenure at Vicarage Road, Dyche he was involved in improving the club’s production line.
Similarly, the youth department is thriving at Falkirk, which will be of particular interest to the Clarets.
Pressley, who took charge at Falkirk Stadium in February 2010, is said to oversee an intense youth policy for The Bairns.
The pair could face pressure for the vacant position at Turf Moor from former Manchester City and West Ham midfielder Lomas, however.
St Johnstone have won their last six games, including a 2-1 win at home to Celtic.
Banaszkiewicz last weekend admitted they had looked at around 15 targets but none of the candidates had prompted unanimous agreement, which was why they were looking to the second interview phase before making their selection.

Assuming we were never really going to get McCarthy, I was more comfortable with the idea of Appleton, Jones, Davis orJoyce - even Mickey Mellon.

20 years producing quality youth. Best placed to advise on his replacement. Already in place. Will need to appoint an assistant. Already has the respect of players and fans. Leave him in charge for the cardiff game and see how we do before appointing anyone.

I asked in a previous blog how much of their own money apart from their shares and their time (presuming they don't take a wage or consultants fee) have they invested in BFC? Judging from the speedy way directors took all their money back from Prem payments (except I am led believe £1m Mr. Kilby has left in) I expect the answer is ZERO
I also asked is here a hidden agenda with the appointment of Mr. Hoos as C.E knowing he is skilfull in making clubs attractive for takeover is this what is the true intention?
I further asked based on the supposition that they are very wealthy gentlemen with entrepreneurial business gambling skills, why are they not putting in some of their own money and taking something of a risk albeit even a slight one?
It is all very well erring on caution but it is a known fact that accountants do not create growth within a business and the size of our home gates is proving this, being composed of nearly all my fellow ST holders.
The club asked in the past for financial support from fans and were given it, I feel the time has come for the Board to reciprocate by being a bit more adventurous. EH wasn't a gamble, if you look at his shrewd acquisitions apart from probably Hines, he has left BFC with future potential windfalls.
We constantly hear the club "has no money" but without creating something to give the fans for them to get behind, then I am afraid for the future because the Board may have a lot less fans thus creating a downward financial spiral which will eventually reflect on what we see the team comprised of.
Where there is hope there is a future but where there is dithering and short sightedness then the dithering gets worse and the future farther away

McCarthy, Appleton, Jones, believed to be out of the frame. Looks as though we are going to choose from the second tier of potential candidates.
Hope i am wrong.

Inexpensive, keeps it within the club with a bootroom mentality. Sadly lacking in recent times under EH

Haven't looked at the Pash slant, but taking in your comments about the yoth team coming through is quite a valid point. Let's see what happens at cCardiff on Saurday if he hasn't had it taken away from him by then. Most important though is a) Match tactics and b) if a new manager is brought in, then Pash must keep his job with the Clarets

He changed the game against balckpool when up against it and it was so evident on Tuesday that he 'Has the lads' on his side.
Nice touch from Pato - gave his trackie top to a young boy at the end of the game - yes the players felt it, it feels good.
C'mon Burnley be sensible.

People cite Ian Holloway as 'inspirational' - he actually took Leicester into League One before he got the Blackpool job. Also Mick McCarthy managed to lose 5-1 at home to his local rivals and is renowned for his awful style of football.
Also remember a lot of people slated the board prior to appointing 'uninspiring' and 'unknown' Owen Coyle to the job of Burnley manager.
Sean Dyche is the man for me, led relegation favourites Watford to a top half position above Burnley last year and was only sacked to allow the Gianfranco Zola circus to take over the Hornets.
lets get behind the board and trust them to make the correct choice.

Appleton - manager since 2011 with one relegation and a 29% win rate. Hes red hot!
.
Billy Davies - sacked by Motherwell, inhereted the job at Preston and failed twice in the play offs, Derby, got promoted and then the worst ever Premiership record before leaving by "mutual consent". Notts Forest - sacked!!
.
If those are your recommendations then thank god you have absolutley no influence at Turf Moor!
