ASPIRING young athletes had their mettle tested by Commonwealth Games gold medalist Dean Macey, pictured.
The training session was run by a new organisation, Schools of Sport, which has put on classes with world-class athletes to grab children’s attention while they are still inspired by the Olympics.
Schools of Sport ran its four-day athletics academy last week at the Oxford University sports ground in Iffley Road for 56 children aged seven to 15, who tried out the high jump, hurdles, discus and javelin.
Kai Snells, eight, from Boars Hill, is hoping to one day compete in the Olympic heptathlon like her hero, Jessica Ennis.
She said: “Dean Macey showed us his gold, silver and bronze medals.
“My favourite was the hurdles, it was really fun.”
