GAMERS may have witnessed the end of Guitar Hero, but Steven Thompson made sure the tag lives on in him at Burnley.

The former Cardiff City striker was featured in the matchday programme on his return to his old club, and was asked if his ‘legendary guitar antics’ had continued at Turf Moor.

The Clarets were certainly dancing to his tune last night, as he popped up with a vital equaliser less than 10 minutes after his introduction.

Thompson hit the right note when the Bluebirds fell flat.

It was by no means a wondergoal for this Wonderwall fan, but it could be a key moment when Burnley look back on the season, and a boost for the man himself too after it was revealed he requires surgery to fix a long-standing groin problem.

But if he is playing through the pain barrier at present, it was the Clarets’ gain last night.

Cardiff had pushed for the opening goal in the first half, although it was cruel on Howe’ men when it came.

Burnley enjoyed the bulk of possession in the second half but were frustrated in their attempts to make it count before Thompson took centre stage, reward for his team-mates for their patience and persistence as they earned a deserved, and welcome, point in the end.

They shouldn’t have been surprised to fall behind in the first instance, though, if statistics are anything to go by.

Cardiff had drawn first blood in an unrivalled 18 matches before last night, and lived up to that reputation by carving out the most clear-cut chances in the first half.
