BURNLEY booked a place in the FA Cup fifth round for the first time in six seasons after a routine win against Bristol City.
Sam Vokes and Steven Defour were both on the scoresheet as the Clarets secured a 2-0 win against their Championship opponents to put their name in the hat for Monday’s fifth round draw.
The first 45 minutes had offered little in the way of excitement but the last action of the half saw the Clarets take the lead.
Defour was at the heart of the goal, winning possession back on the right and then receiving the ball back from Johann Berg Gudmundsson. The Belgian worked his way into the area and squared for Vokes, who turned the cross home.
The lead was doubled midway through the second half in sublime fashion. Nick Pope punched Josh Brownhill’s free-kick clear and Burnley countered. Gudmundsson and Defour exchanged passes and the latter lofted a chipped finish over Fabian Giefer’s head from the edge of the area.
