Burnley FC blog: Coyle has plenty to lose on Turf trip
BRIAN Laws’ text to Owen Coyle must have pretty much summed up how the former Burnley boss was feeling after Saturday’s Carling Cup draw. It read simply, ‘Ouch’.
Of all the 62 possibilities in the third round draw, Burnley away must have been the one Coyle was dreading the most.
With the two teams now in separate divisions, he must have hoped the return to Turf Moor would not come for some time yet.
Instead it came in the first cup draw in which the two sides could have met.
The long walk from tunnel to dugout, a quirk of Turf Moor that previously allowed Coyle to lap up the adulation of the Longside, must now seem one of the most daunting tasks he has ever faced.
It is important that nothing happens on the night to damage the reputation of Burnley as a club, but it seems somewhat unlikely he will applauded.
Robbie Blake may be received a little more warmly.
Coyle has faced Burnley before, of course, just weeks after his unpopular defection to Bolton when the Clarets travelled to the Reebok Stadium for a Premier League match.
But this time it is different. This time he will not have the comfort of home advantage.
This time it is he that has everything to lose.
Coyle still had something to prove when the two sides faced each other at the Reebok.
The result would be the first indication of whether he had made the right decision.
But the Scot will feel his judgement was vindicated, first by that 1-0 win and then by Bolton surviving when Burnley could not. Coyle has the upper hand right now but defeat at Turf Moor in the Carling Cup would jeopardise that.
It is a result the Clarets will feel confident of inflicting, with the emotional baggage that hampered them both at the Reebok and during the run-in now largely evaporated.
The draw has echoes of Burnley versus Shrewsbury in 1992, when unpopular former Clarets boss John Bond was advised to stay away from Turf Moor for an FA Cup match.
Hopefully times have moved on a little since then but, even though it required a replay, Burnley got the victory they so badly wanted in that tie.
Few would be surprised if they beat Bolton too.

arly when his current club had clearly decided to take the money and run? The cup match is a chance for Burnley fans to pay tribute to the man who took them to the only stint in the Premiership they are ever likely to encounter.

Chris Flanagan should acquaint himself with the realities of the modern game.Coyle moved to an established Premiership club who are at least 10 years ahead of Burnley in their development.Who would have passed up the opportunity, particul

Even Adrian Heath has said this though we was, as you would expect, concerned about the welfare of the youth trainees;-)

They'll merely see it as a poxy game against a poxy club, in a poxy cup competition.
Please move on from Owen Coyle! It really is getting tiresome.
Please move on Burnley,

He should be advised to stay away this time too. Steve Davis, Phil Hughes and Stewart as well would be well-advised to stay in Horwich and listen to the radio.
After what they did and the underhand way in which they did it, they deserve no quarter. Hostile?? they are about to discover the true meaning of the word!!!
Isn't Burnley full of dwarves? Too much inbreeding I heard!

We have moved on from Owen Coyle but that doesnt mean that he wont get abused, now is his time to face the music, something he thought he would never have to do!

Oh shut up tetley tosser, put up or shut up, it wasnt like he wanted more money for a legitimate reason was it, it wasnt because he wanted a bigger budget, just more money in his pocket when he's already a millionaire; why should the club risk its financial future just because of one greedy get who knew what he signed up for? You lot wouldnt get that though, you don't care how much your club spends or where the money comes from otherwise you wouldnt want some dodgy middle eastern businessman to buy your club! Its you who needs something ramming down their throat to shut you up once and for all, you really are a sad sad man, it is blatantly obvious that you spend all day every day trawling the internet for articles on a club you hate - how very very sad indeed.

At the end of the day, he went to a bigger club with more ambition.
Moved on my arse, its your biggest game of the season all of a sudden.
Suck it up dingle, enjoy the defeat. Bet Coyle doesnt even play his full team

If the Burnley Board had done the same they would have doubtless stayed; they didnt because spare cash has to go out of the club, and we all know what that means.
By acquiring Coyle and building up their squad Bolton are set to join Rovers as an established Premier League club with all that entails in terms of revenues, playing quality and European games etc. Burnley will never be ion that category ; you know that deep down and thats why you react like that.
Just because the truth is painful doesnt make it any less the truth.

Burnley will never be an established Premier League outfit because the financial and youth base is weak, and there are serious problems at Board level.

Unlike Burnley they can bide their time as the squad is strong. And Burnley have bought : Championship standard players. Burnley will never be an established Premier League outfit because the financial and youth base is weak, and there are serious problems at Board level.

So in your considered opinion Bolton don't need to spend any money to improve their squad. Perhaps a view shared by you and you alone.

after a long struggle with sincere effort it’s done.
