SAY it quietly but I think the push for promotion may be back on.

Back-to-back wins for the first time in something like 17 months and a good all-round performance at Vicarage Road on an awful pitch is definitely something to cheer about.

And while I don’t think any of us will be getting carried away – especially with another two league games away from Turf Moor before we entertain Crystal Palace on March 5 – the rut we had been in for quite a while shows signs of disappearing.

I’d have quite happily taken a point at Watford before we kicked off but to come away with a convincing 3-1 win, just a week after seeing off another promotion rival in Norwich City, is nothing short of brilliant.

New boss Eddie Howe seems to have the lads enjoying themselves again and, although he admits we still have to improve in certain areas, I am sure the players will continuing striving forward.

A freaky own goal and strikes for the two Chrises Eagles and Iwelumo were enough to give us the three points.

The transformation in Eagles this year has been fantastic and anyone who ever doubted his commitment to the cause must be feeling a tad foolish now.

It would have been easy for him to walk away a few times this last year or so but he knows he has something to prove and he is doing just that.

His all-round play has been fantastic and I know a lot of Burnley fans may not like it but I think Brian Laws – much in the same way as he does for Jay Rodriguez – has to take some credit for helping him develop certain parts of his game.

Eagles admitted last year that he was left out of the side because he didn’t work hard enough defen-sively but Laws took him to one side and sorted that out and we’re now reaping the benefits of that.

The trip to Cardiff this week is going to be tough but we have to believe we are good enough to go there and win, just like we did on Saturday.

Dave Jones’ side are worthy of their position in the Championship and have some cracking players.

But, that said, so do we and under Howe they’re finally showing their true potential.

After Cardiff we have the distraction of an FA Cup trip to West Ham United and then the chance to deal local rivals Preston North End another heavy blow.

Phil Brown was linked with the managers’ job here after Brian Laws left and I have to admit I was very relieved when North End snapped him up.

I have nothing against Brown and I thought his treatment at Hull City was a little shoddy but he didn’t inspire the same kind of confidence in me as Eddie Howe did and I think recent results at Deepdale prove Barry Kilby made the right choice.

How good would it be to effect-ively relegate our great Lancashire rivals?

Dare to dream eh?
