The boos are becoming as much a fixture of the half time entertainment as the R’n’B hits and the line of kids firing footballs at a giant pie.

And after another woeful first half, you could not help but feel sympathy for the Clarets faithful. The win at Barnsley on Boxing Day has merely papered over the glaring cracks that exist at the moment.

I’m not bothered who the manager is but the simple fact is, with the squad we have, in a weak Championship, this is not good enough.

Brian Laws may be the easy target but, as he rightly said after the Leeds United capitulation, some of the lads need to take a good look at themselves.

Andre Bikey, frustrating even at the best of times, was nothing short of awful.

Not much better was winger Ross Wallace who can count himself very lucky not to have been hooked by Laws at half time.

Instead it was Wade Elliott who made way, prompting the introduction of Chris Eagles.

The second half did start better, the Clarets – albeit temporarily – looking more energetic after a sluggish first 45. But we still failed to create a clear cut chance and that is a worry, Scunthorpe looked more of a threat than we did and when Chris Dagnall slotted home a second, the mass exodus and the “Laws out” chants could not be ignored.

A home defeat to Scunthorpe is not something that can be explained away easily, and I mean no offence to the opposition when I say that because they thoroughly deserved this result.

He may think he’s been given a rough ride in recent weeks but the evidence is mounting against Laws.

He is clearly not the man to lead Burnley and if he’s not going to walk away after this latest shambles then Barry Kilby needs to wield the axe and fast.

This year started with a departure and should end with one again.

Twelve months is a long time in football and it’s frightening how far back we have gone in that time.

Thanks for the (limited) memories, Brian.
