Allardyce ponders audacious move for Dutch hitman

BLACKBURN Rovers boss Sam Allardyce admits he would be interested in Ruud van Nistelrooy if the Real Madrid striker was prepared to take a wage cut – but he has confirmed he will not be chasing Michael Owen or Kevin Davies.

Allardyce has made the acquisition of a proven goalscorer his top priority this summer following the departure of Roque Santa Cruz, who joined Manchester City earlier this week for a fee of around £17m.

Reports yesterday linked Rovers with a £4m move for promising Hibernian forward Steven Fletcher but that is not believed to be on the agenda.

Allardyce has built a reputation during his managerial career for attracting top names, capturing the likes of Nicolas Anelka, Jay-Jay Okocha and Youri Djorkaeff at Bolton.

No enquiry has been made but Big Sam says he would be interested in van Nistelrooy if a financial deal could be worked out, although that appears unlikely given that the former Manchester United striker is renowned as one of the most prolific goalscorers in world football.

But it has been suggested that van Nistelrooy, 33 next week and on the way back from a serious knee injury, is surplus to requirements at Real Madrid. Tottenham and Fulham have already been linked.

“I think financially that would be pretty difficult for us to meet,” said Allardyce.

“I think that the sort of salary he would be earning at Real Madrid, unless Ruud wants to come and play in the Premier League again and wants to take less of a salary. Then I’d be interested.

“I wouldn’t be able to match his salary at Real Madrid, even if there was no fee involved.

“But, yes, it would be of interest to me, there’s no doubt about that.

“There’s nothing from my point of view that would say I wouldn’t want to talk to him if he wanted to come, but I’ve not enquired into that area.

“I think that would be some-thing of a major coup if you could do it, but very difficult.”

Allardyce has confirmed that chairman John Williams did make an enquiry about Davies but was told by Bolton that the former Rovers forward was not for sale.

“John told me on Thursday that Kevin Davies is not available,” he said. “As far as I’m concerned that is it.”

Rovers have also been linked with Michael Owen, who is out of contract at Newcastle.

Allardyce managed Owen at St James’ Park and was previously interested in signing him at Bolton, but the 29-year-old has suffered from persistent injury problems in recent years.

“For me, at this particular time, it’s not something I’d be particularly interested in,” said Allardyce.

“I couldn’t afford for Michael to pick up the injuries he picked up at Newcastle if I got him.

“I just think at the moment financially he might be out of reach for us but for me it’s not the ability, it’s just the problems he’s had with injuries.

“I need a striker that is going to be available for 30 games next season.”

Such is van Nistelrooy’s status, Allardyce’s comments about the Dutch international are likely to set tongues wagging in Blackburn.

Rovers legend Simon Garner was intrigued by the links and has urged the club to chance their arm if there is even the slightest hint of a deal being possible.

“Sam should go for it if he gets half a chance,” said Garner.

“Van Nistelrooy would be a great signing, although I can imagine wages might be problem.

“Sam is very clever in the transfer market and has got players in the past that you wouldn’t have expected him to get.

“I’m sure other clubs would come in for van Nistelrooy and he would probably want to keep his options open.”

my only thoughts on this deal are..

he is 33, so he is getting on, he has had a few injurys recently.

i think we should go in and offer him 70/80k a week

Be a massive coup. But the question will always be on the wages. If another team like spurs came in then find it hard as they would be able to offer him better wages. But I also dont see any reason why we cant say lets use 2m of the money we could have spent on player to put towards his wages. As he will only cost around 1.5m to purchase.

Would love to see this happen, but in reality we have no chance.

Concerned that we seem to have decided to blow all the cash on a striker, We could have Rooney and Torres up top, but with no service from our p!ss poor midfield, they won't get chances, meaning they won't score goals.

Surely a couple of creative midfielder has got to be the main aim, ahead of a big money striker?

How about Van Nistelroy and Gudjohnsen up front next season?? *mouth waters* 6M tops for both, bargain!! Plus Tuncay as attacking CM and Pennant as RM. Whack in a quality RB and there's your 13M. Sorted!! Roll on next season!!

ps: Anyone know why this site isn't compatable with Firefox? Can never sign in here using that..

it is compatible with firefox as thats what I m using and have no problems. We need strikers as up most important as well as creative midfielder as the other way round its no good having someone who can create chances without having strikers good enough to score. On Roberts doesnt score enough misses alot gd chances and Benni can be hit and miss depending on his mood. So both are needed.

Van Nistelroy (33, bad knee and wants 100k), Gudjohnson, Owen, Couch etc not only cant you afford the fee, you cant afford the wage and they have no reason to want to play for Rovers. Stick with BFS strenght and get the foriegners in...Ahmed Al Muhammadi and Haminu Dramon! LOL

Van Nistelrooy would be a great signing. His goalscoring record is excellent - since he's been at madrid he's scored 45 in 67 games.

Would work well with Roberts, but delivery is an issue that needs resolving.

This is a non-starter -imagine the Phone conversation between Ally dice and Van the man…

Ally dice ..Ruud, Do you fancy a move to Ewood-we can pay you a quarter of your present salary.

Van the man..Thanks for asking Sam but no thanks.

Ally dice…Don’t be like that Rudd we can offer you Premier soccer and I guarantee you won’t be a bench warmer this season-don’t forget its World cup next year, a chance to showcase you.

Van the man…Yes I like the idea of a starting place so I can show off my talents to that Dutch Bastrad (Bert van Marwijk) so he’d pick me. But the money is an issue.

Ally dice.. Look Ruud I really want you ..so I’ll ask JW if we can throw a few sweeteners in (no, not a brown envelope!) maybe a two up two down up Mill Hill or what about a new Ford -sure we’ve contacts with Cravens garage- Rudd have you any teenage kids?

Van the man …Yes, why?

Ally dice.. Well I reckon we’ll be able to throw in the free rental of Blues bar for a birthday do. How’s that grab you!

Van the man.. Hmm! (thinking---- how the hell did he sign Anelka-I’ll humour him)…Okay Sam you’ve got my interest -sell the team and club to me.

Ally dice..the club thing is easy -founder members of the Prem & one of only four to lift the prestigious trophy and we’ve sold loads of season tickets-if you sign we’ll have sell outs every game I swear!

Van the man… that sounds good -what about my team mates?

Ally dice.. Hmmm (thinks..Sh*t)..well
, we’ve a strong defence with Robbo playing out of his skin -real England form-great attacking full backs and Rock solid central defenders -Midfield was a bit weak last season Ruud, we had loads of injury but I’ve got rid of the weak links (thinks ..Tugay- little sh*t wanted to play football!) and Dunny and Reidy will be back so we’ve got a decent team.

Van the man.. Hmm what about my strike partner and defo need a good winger to ping the balls in?

Ally dice…Hmmm (thinks -double sh*t!) no problem Ruud.. two well known international player - a great whinge (Freudian slip!) winger a “talented” Norweigen lad -we’ve just signed him up forever on an improved deal-your strike partner would be a great South African lad who’ll be out to impress this season -I can see you getting a bag full between you- you’ll be the new SAS!!

Van the man.. That sounds exciting -sorry Sam I’ve been out of the country for a while now so I’ve lost contact with English football ..remind me again these two players names..

Ally dice….Hmm Pedersen and McCarthy.

Ruud.. bleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
eeeeeep

Come on Rovers fans, lets give more credit to our Burnley friends. Because they have done really well last season. I for one think they will stay in the premiership, for at least 4 seasons.(SPRING, SUMMER, AUTUMN AND WINTER.)and by xmas, there will be more points on a triangle, than what they'll have.

Double LOL - if we can't afford his wages that means Dingles can't even afford his pet dog which he called BNP-LEY!

At 33 though its dodgy unless on a free.

On a fun note he could join Shearer, Cole and Fowler in the band of top all time premiership scorers to wear the Blue and White halves. We would only need Thiery Henry then to complete a NAP of the top 5 - Henry - now your talking!

Ruud van Nistelrooy is Not what Rovers need. I live in Holland and the dutch don't rate him either. He is a goal poacher who can't score from more than six yards out. Rovers simply don't have the quailty on the wings to supply such a striker. He is one of the biggest whingers in football and at 33 is past it. When santa cruz came to Blackburn, he motivated himself knowing if he played well, a big club would come looking. That won't happen with RvN. He also has no chance of playing in the National Team. Rovers need somebody with something to prove, with a bit more enthusiasm and with a smaller wage packet.

Are they making it up or has SA given another interview, because the above article dosn't quote SA as saying this?

Sound analysis so you would go for a youngster with potential instead?

Problem is we just sold him!

I would still get Duffer in on the cheap from firesalescastle and he will put the ball on anyone's head.

Hey Eddie & Morst...

I do apologise Eddie I didn't see the post you replied too earlier & I havn't even 'been on the sauce'....

I blame the sun !!:)

Hey Morst hope all is well pal?

just on the VNstlry issue, I cant decide if it would be a decent move or not?

But then was the likes of Archibold,Speedie(as some-one mentioned earlier) A.Cole etc foreseen ?

If we want a proven goal scorer then 'Van is the man' but then kind of flys in the face of 'Player Returns policy'. A double edged sword kinda sorta?

Just on the 'Wages' issue, dear me does he need any more $'s? Can he not just play for the footy ideals? I'm sure he would still be paid a kings ransom anyoldhows!!

One thing is for certain that if it does get to a discussion stage ex-players will give him the low-down on what we know is a club who looks after it's players(most of them anyhow!!)

I'm still undecided though...

I'll shut-up now ! :)
