FULL-TIME: Burnley 1 Stoke City 1

DAVID Nugent scored his second goal in five days for Burnley but the Clarets remain in the Premier League relegation zone after their 1-1 draw at home to Stoke City.

The Potters took an interval lead courtesy of Tuncay Sanli's 23rd minute goal.

Rory Delap's long throw was flicked on by Mamady Sidibe to Tuncay, who headed in.

Burnley hit back and Chris Eagles delivered a cross to Martin Paterson at the back post in the 39th minute.

However, the Northern Ireland striker showed a lack of confidence and sent his effort weakly into the side-netting.

But Nugent salvaged a point for Burnley with his sixth goal for the club.

He headed home in the 52nd minute after Paterson turned Danny Collins inside out before delivering a superb cross from deep.

The Clarets came close to getting the winner in the closing moments of the game with Chris Eagles sending a shot over the bar and sub Kevin McDonald finding the wrong side of the post with his effort.

I think a point for the dingles wasn't too bad. Stoke are a decent side afterall. 6 points from Wolves and Wigan or they're down though.

Lots better in the 2nd half, the tempo was upped and we kept the ball down. Still cant keep a clean sheet but defended better in the 2nd period. Im still concerned with the amount of chances we are missing from good scoring positions, they need to put them to bed. UTC

Interesting that you moved the advertising boards to stop Delap from taking his throws - of course it didn't work because you need to do it all the way to the half way line (lol) - but you have given everyone else a good idea!
.
Please do the same against us then Big Sam can't use that awful technique either!
.
Its got to be 3 points on Sat now Bertiebee or its thrown to the relegation Wolves me thinks?

As a Rovers supporter and season ticket holder, I really do hope Burnley stay up, as the game at Ewood was one of the best I've seen all season in terms of the atmosphere. Even letting them go a goal up was worth it to see our lads respond. Sadly though, I can't see how they're going to get out of the relegation scrap unless the teams above them get no points at all.

chelsea did it on sunday. my next door neighbour noted it and told the club about it on monday.
.
whether they listened to my neighbour or not, they did it. i agree it still didnt work, but it can make it more difficult for delap to get momentum.

Hi WB, over the season to date we have missed so many chances which had they made count would have given us more points on are travels as well as at home. Maybe we could have been sitting up with our local rivals from down the road.

We must now surely push on and bring that 2nd half performance into the next game but right from the start.

Wolves is a must win now and i'd have taken 4 points from these 2 home games had they been offered at the start of the season (as the saying goes) given our current situation.

Wigan must be a game we should be looking at to get that 1st away win but they are quite good at home and have pace which will always give our sorry defence a very tuff time. Added to the fact we have never beat them away does'nt bode well but surely that must change at some point. UTC

Hi Morst, it was a great master plan and like alot a master plans it failed lol ;0). Having said that we manage to handle Stoke alot better in the 2nd half. Maybe had our finishing been more clinical with the chances we had it could have been 3 points.
Yes a defo win required on saturday and if we play the whole game like we did the 2nd half in this game and be more clinical with the chances we make we can win it. UTC

Can still stay up cos lower teams are c**p in form. We will need i reckon 37 points to be sure. Thats 4 wins and 1 draw. Given our run-in thats defnitely achievable but we need some wins urgently.

Goals by Fletcher and Nugent simply prove my point about player quality. We need more players like them to stay in the PL longer-term and it is not cheap. If we do stay up this point has got to be rammed home to Kilby and Flood otherwise its Derby County next season.

Really the issue is not Coyle, Laws, Gartside, the media, Blackburn fans or injuries. The players are not good enough to be viable in the PL : its as simple as that.

Unless this is dealt with in the Summer (assuming we stay up) the playing side of the club will collapse. Early season home form in 6-7 games under Coyle created a false impression and led some people to believe the squad is good enough and when its not and never will be. In truth most of em are nowehere near PL standard.

I try to be a positive fan and support the team but enough is enough.

Surely everyone can see that Laws doesnt know what he is doing at this point. If Cox isnt injured why sub him for Jordan....what exactly did that do for us? Why keep playing Elliot who is clearly out of his depth at this level?

Why not play Bikey? It's alright having creative players but they arent much use if they dont have the ball. He gets invloved and wins the ball, he is strong and makes a nusiance of himself in the middle.

Laws brings on defensive players when we need attacking ones and vice versa. Surely by now he knows what his players are capable of.

I hate to say it but this team has no shape, no identity.....we were a better team under Coyle and i hate to say that too. Whatever the morons on here say we have the players to stay in this league but they need direction and they are not getting it.

I honestly dont see us getting out of this relegation battle on top, not unless Laws suddenly changes into an inspiring manager and master tactician.

OK. Win : Wolves, Blackburn,Hull, Wigan. Draw : Sunderland.

This is definitely feasible but need to show more flair and determination.

optimistic phil, i will give you that. however taking into consideration our away form, i don't think we will get owt from wigan or sunderland, a point at hull maybe. beat wolves and a draw against blackburn. that gives us 29 points, relegation. i hope i'm wrong. all the best.

I will tell you something now you will be amazed about. The 40 points target for absolute guarenteed safety is a stats criterion based on fact only been one team relegated in 10 years with more than that.

Same analysis applies to 37 points : its guess work . It all depends on how us Wolves and Hull perform between now and the end of the season. Their form is not much better than ours neither are their squads.

Its entirely possible if we take points off em and they show poor form that as little as 31-32 points could well be enough. REALLY SERIOUSLY, a few points more than you suggest john could suffice. Thats not neccessarily being overly-optimistic, tho ugh i personally still think 36-37 points will be needed.
