FULL-TIME: Arsenal 3 Burnley 1

BURNLEY suffered their fourth defeat in a row, and 14th away loss of the season, as goals for Cesc Fabregas, Theo Walcott and Andrey Arshavin's stoppage time strike helped Arsenal step up their title charge.

The Clarets had plenty of defending to do and put in a brave performance against the Gunners, for whom Nicklas Bendtner and Walcott could have had hat-tricks.

A combination of Brian Jensen's smart saves and poor finishing kept Burnley in it until the end, after David Nugent cancelled out Fabregas' opener five minutes into the second half.

But the Gunners' relentless pressure told in the final minute when substitute Arshavin wrapped up the win.

Fabregas broke the deadlock on 34 minutes when he rounded off a move he started with a square pass to Samir Nasri just outside the box. The Spaniard darted into the area to receive a return ball over the top of the defence, and slipped it through Jensen's legs.

Nugent equalised with a brilliant lob over Manuel Almunia soon after the break.

But Walcott all but ended hopes of a precious point when he found the bottom left corner to put Arsenal back in front with 30 minutes to go.

Burnley didn't give up, and substitute Steven Thompson had a good chance to equalise late on when Almunia failed to deal with a Danny Fox corner, but couldn't hit the target.

Arshavin sealed the win when the ball broke to him from a corner in the final minute.

Cue the usual monday morning drivel, no doubt burnley were once again unlucky not to get something.

Listening to the game it sounded as though arsenal could have had 6 or 7 if bendtner had been able to do his job, but once again, as has been the case all season, burnley just weren't good enough.

Think i'll stick to reading a report of the match in a more reliable newspaper, that way i won't have to see things from the perspective of a deluded burnley supporter, still believing the side are good enough.

Give it a rest madari. Give the guy a chance. It was always going to be a difficult game. I for one was pleased with the way he changed a few faces in the team today and yes Arsenal had a hat full of chances but they missed quite a few of them and when that happens theres always a chance. It wasnt to be and it was a game we were expected to lose anyway. Now we can try and compete for points with the remaining 10 games. UTC

jacko there is no fooling you, yes they did have a hotfull of chances and they missed them just like when they stuffed your lot only they still put 6 past you and still missed a hatfull of chances. We had some good spells and rode are luck but thats football. So the only drivel being spouted out is from your mouth chap. We didnt expect to get anything out of the game but at 1-1 you hope that they keep missing those chances and hang to grab a point but alas it wasnt to be. I can live with that and so can the true clarets fans. There are 10 cup finals left to play and we just have to fight as hard as we can to stay up. Have a good weekend geez. UTC

(neutra)I think rovers can send the clarets down at the end of the month if they win on the turf.

The new claret's manager looks way way out of his depth.

Arsenal could have had 10 today.

Obviously with other bad sides (those on a par with the clarets) such as Wolves, Hull and Wigan etc could save the day for Burnley but what happens next season with Laws in charge if they escape relegation this season?

burnley need at least 10-12 points to stay up. where are they going to get them from? i can't even see them getting more than 7 points.

to the wonderful blackburn fans who keep telling us how bad we are:- WE KNOW. we are not second to bottom with a shocking away record because we are good. you really don't want us relegated,it would mean 6 less points for you lot, without those points you could well be joining us. take care of your health, you have enough problems at your gaff without taking ours on board.

Bulldog more like billsh*t. If you were in our position you would be throwing in the towel right now with 10 games to play tossing your toys out of your pram. We wont give up untill the end and yes you may beat us end of march but dont count your eggs too soon. UTC

No seriously I can't believe some of you have given up hope - look what two wins in a week have done for Bolton. You are one of 4 poor teams 2 of which will go down with Portsmouth and you have as much chance as Hull, Wolves and Wigan and you have to play them.
.
As the season kicked off with no money you would have given your right arms still to be in with a chance at this stage?
.
I would prefer the derby next season than you go down though its a close call!

Hi ya Morst, those who have given up hope are a minority. As i have said before the Arsenal game was a game that for us to get a result from would have been a shock. There are still 10 games left and we have 4 out of the next 6 at home. So if we are going to move out of the bottom 3 these are the games we really must take points at home and away. We need to get back the form we have had at home and its a must to pick something up from these up and coming away games. So its still all to play for. UTC

Madari, he didnt leave sheff Wed in a state they were already in a state pretty much like Pompey are only they have had huge debts for a number of years. BL had a tuff job there as has the new manager as he is finding out. BL has OC's players and yes hes a brought in some of his own but they were also playing the OC way which he is trying to adjust. We all know from last season that the defence was a weak link and would struggle in the premiership. What did OC do about? Not alot really, he brought in Mears, Edgar and 1 or 2 others but Mears was the best of the bunch along with Edgar who OC didnt play. So BL needs to put his stamp on this team and if he does keep us up he will do just that. If we go down and it still is an if he will bring us back up. Give the man a chance. UTC

Just three comments:
1. At least the anticipated mauling didnt materialise
2. Contrary to the LT report it was not a close game. It could easily have been a hammering.
3. Supporters ,players and managers tendencies to just write off these games is worrying. The odd point or win would be very useful. What if we dont win against Blackburn, Stoke, Wolves - even draws in any of those games would be damaging.

We need POINTS now and by any means neccessary. Dare to Dream is Im afraid rapidly becoming Living in a Dreamworld or maybe more accurately Nightmare in the Prem.

Its now 59 goals conceded which is an average of over 2 per game. We have some tough games coming up. Anyone know the record for this in the PL over 38 games ?.

Got a horrible feeling we are going to collect an unwanted record on this and acquire the nickname of the Guinness Book of Records men!
