FULL-TIME: Fulham 3 Burnley 0

BURNLEY were unable to build on Saturday's win over West Ham United as they crashed to a heavy defeat at Fulham in the Premier League tonight.

Roy Hodgson's side took the lead in the 23rd when Elm, who appeared to be offside, cushioned a header into the path of Murphy and the midfielder found the net.

The Clarets were left appealing for offside again as Bobby Zamora raced away to set up Fulham's second goal in the 31st minute, with Brian Jensen saving only for Elm to tap in.

Burnley then lost Leon Cort to injury, with Chris Eagles coming on and Danny Fox reverting to left back after starting the game in midfield.

Tyrone Mears came close to pulling a goal back before half time, clipping the angle of post and bar with a free kick.

But Fulham made it 3-0 eight minutes into the second half as Zamora was fouled just outside the box and picked himself up to beat Jensen from the free kick.

Jack Cork came on for his Clarets debut as a second-half substitute for Wade Elliott, but Burnley were unable to reduce their deficit.

Burnley: Brian Jensen; Tyrone Mears, Clarke Carlisle (Chris Eagles 32), Leon Cort, David Edgar; Wade Elliott (Jack Cork 56), Kevin McDonald, Andre Bikey, Danny Fox; Steven Fletcher, David Nugent (Martin Paterson 76). Subs not used: Nicky Weaver, Michael Duff, Robbie Blake, Steven Thompson.

Fulham: Mark Schwarzer; Chris Baird, Aaron Hughes, Brede Hangeland, Nicky Shorey; Damien Duff (Bjorn Helge Riise 77), Danny Murphy, Dickson Etuhu, Simon Davies (Jonathan Greening 61); Bobby Zamora (Stefano Okaka 71), David Elm. Subs not used: Pascal Zuberbuhler, Stephen Kelly, Erik Nevland, Chris Smalling.

Referee: Steve Bennett (Kent).

Attendance: 23,005.

It's been a strange couple of days up in the hills. Clarke Carlisle going on Countdown, (Dingles with letters and numbers?) Brian Laws fancies going on X Factor. (Maybe singing the theme from Titanic). A university planned for Burnley, (think a special needs unit would be more apt) Prince Charles visits Dingleland, (one step up from talking to his plants) And then everything is back to normal. Battered away again. Fat keeper flapping at thin air and The Dingles heading for The Chumpionship. See you.

Well well well, what a difference a few days make. Burnley beat a very poor West Ham, JUST, and the Burnley fans think Brian Laws is the best thing since sliced bread....

Fast forward 3 days and normal service has ressumed. Their away day woes strike again...

Shall we start taking bets on the drivel that will inevitably appear in tomorrows telegraph? No doubt burnley were very unlucky, or it was a tremendous effort with some excellent football? Already got one excuse lined up with these 'offside' goals that we'll be led to believe shouldn't have counted. As (and i quote from this paper) 'one of football's great planners' brian 'one win five defeats' laws doesn't seem to have come up with any answers to remedy an embarrassing away record.

And where are all the burnley fans tonight? You can't all be on the way back from london surely?

Went to Fulham last night and it was pretty dire stuff. Despite a phenomenal vocal performance from the away end in the 2nd half, the Clarets just did not get going and never put the home team under any kind of pressure.
As fans, we need to carry on getting behind the team like we did last night. There are some crap teams down there, like bstards, and our support can be the difference.

Were you at stoke city last week? Thought not.
We've been through this so many times this season already. You all have excuses for why you don't go to games, but the fact is you don't. man city, villa, etc, etc.
You post on the BURNLEY board every story, yet you don't even go to any games.
Not really rovers fans are you, just surfers on the net jumping on a band waggon. Repeating the same drivel.
That's why nobody can be bothered with you, you lost any credibility well before now. Most of us have gone to a different board where you'll find real football fans who go to games talking football.

We really cant write off away games. Its inevitable we will draw or lose some home games. Therefore some draws or a win away from home are vital.Vocal support helps but the critical thing is POINTS.
Everything else is irrelevant!

I live in Oxfordshire and I get to most games that are within reach. I went to MK Dons, to Reading and to Fulham. The clarets were lucky to beat MK, they were lucky that Reading only scored once, it should have ben more and last night it was a case of a Premiership side playing a middle of the table Championship side.
In each of the games I have seen it has been apparent that
* The goalkeeper can stop shots but cannot command his area.
* The defence is disorganized and lacks a leader.
* The midfield lacks ball holding skills and has no natural leader.
* The strikers don't seem to want to look for goals.

What I saw last night was a good first ten minutes with some pretty football but no menace. For the rest of the game Fulham who aren't the best side in the Premiership gave us a lesson in how to play football and capitalise on chances whilst the Clarets floated like a butterfly and stung like a butterfly

Given the above comments, can I ask did the Clarets correspondent actually attend the game?
Cos when I read some of the match reports and compare them ( and players' ratings) with the posts of people who actually were at the game and more balanced accounts written by journalists of quality newspapers such as The Daily Telegraph, Times and Guardian there is a huge discrepancy. Someone is not filing accurate, informative reports and I suspect its the Clarets writers.
If you write utter drivel it tends to be discounted and eventually people dont read it. It becomes seriously devalued currency. This is already happening ( I know for a fact) with the LT reports of Burnley games.

Editor of the LT : can we please have a return to balanced, knowledgeable and informative journalism regarding Burnley games ?. Otherwise you will see a gradual deterioration to the point where LT reports are little more than low-grade fanzines. The longer-term consequences of this are extermely damaging. It could indeed affect the reputation and commercial value of your business.

Many thanks for your attention and looking forward to a positive response.

If the above comments are directed at me its fundamentally mistaken. Ive followed Burnley since 1974 through thick and thin; at times its been like having teeth pulled.

Im a contradiction : both a realist and wanting the best for the club. For instance many of the current squad are over-priced mediocrity who wouldnt be anywhere near the Turf in the 60s and 70s. I judge them by those high standards and the passions displayed by the likes of Peter Noble. All true Clarets should do the same.

If you want to accept c**p masquerading as Burnley players thats up to you . I wont and never will. Cos thats the reason why ( and I hate saying this) we will probably be relegated either this season or next : lack of quality players totally committed to the Burnley cause.

Apologies for being blunt in this way. Its better to live in the real world rather than continue being doped up by local media bulls***t,club hype and supporters who have no sense of historical perspective as well as having depressingly low-standards regarding player quality.
