FULL-TIME: Burnley 1 Chelsea 2

BRIAN Laws’ first home game in charge of the Clarets has ended in defeat after John Terry powered in a header to give visitors Chelsea the points.

Captain Terry, who has endured a difficult couple of days in his personal life, put his side back in the lead after Steven Fletcher had cancelled out Nicholas Anelka’s opener.

After drawing level Burnley found themselves under siege by the Premier League leaders and finally succumbed to a powerful header from Terry that thundered off the ground and past Brian Jensen.

The visitors had broken the deadlock in the 27th minute when Joe Cole strode forward down the right and picked out Florent Malouda at the back post. The French winger found his countryman Anelka with his first touch and the striker was free in the six-yard box to beat a helpless Jensen.

Chelsea cruised until half-time under no real strain from the Clarets but as they emerged after the break they were hit by a magnificent sucker-punch.

No sooner had the travelling Chelsea fans found their voices for the start of the second half they were silenced once more.

Robbie Blake’s ball over the top found Fletcher, whose majestic touch over his left shoulder bamboozled Alex.

As the Brazilian tried to recover he flicked the ball against Fletcher, leaving it to fall perfectly for the Scot to fire past Cech and blow the roof off Turf Moor.

But Chelsea were brought to life by Fletcher’s equaliser and poured forward, and they thought they were ahead once again almost instantly after a goalmouth scramble lead to Joe Cole heading home from close range.

But when Anelka’s cross to the far post allowed Cole to turn home an initial header by Maloduda the linesman raised his flag to cut Chelsea celebrations short.

Frank Lampard tested Jensen from a free-kick after substitute Martin Paterson up-ended Anelka. The England man’s free kick crept round the wall but Jensen was on hand to beat away the effort.

Chris Eagles’ speculative effort was comfortably saved by Cech in what was essentially the only time the hosts were allowed out of their own half.

Ashley Cole broke down the left and found himself through on goal but was denied by Clarke Carlisle's brilliant challenge that eventually forced the Chelsea full-back off with an injury.

And as the visitors piled forward once again they forced a corner that was met by Terry, who headed home to give his side a hard-earned three points despite a spirited performance by Laws’ men.

I agree John, it was obvious chelsea were going to have the chances and the possesion but i thought we were coping quite well. I was hoping to hang on for a point. Our marking for the 1st goal or should i say the none existance of it was all to familiar but other than that i think we were doing fairly well. We need to get a win under our belts and soon and with West Ham up next its a must. Some luck and the rub of the green is needed. UTC

There are some positives, pre match I wouldn't have been suprised at Chelsea scoring 4, 5, 6 or more given both side's current form. Defence looked a lot better than in previous games, whilst we still retained much of the entertaining attacking football. Had the impression they were thinking more about the way to attack, rather than being "gung-ho" and getting caught out. Some of Burnley's quick passing in the Chelsea penalty area would have resulted in goals against any lesser teams. Let's just hope it's not too late.

So let's all relax and think about what happened today. Chelsea, top of the table and a fantstic team played Burnley, bottom three and struggling. Burnley lost 2-1, against the probable premier league champions, how bad is that?

If anyone was expecting for us (BFC) to win, I wasn't one of them, I support and love BFC, but come on, 2-1 was not that bad. I want a win, I want ten wins, but some games you know that it won't happen, and yet we nearly did it, only 9 minutes away.

Will we stay up, well it's starting to look grim, but as the song says the fat lady ain't singing yet!

keep the faith, four wins and things will look better, I like Cort, thought our defence was OK today, not great but definitely OK, Fletcher's goal was superb, we just need a win and the rest will come.

I was sat in a foriegn country watching this game with a herd of Chelski supporters (I was the only one wearing my colours) glory hunting B@stards that they are. They were worried until the 90th minute, which i was supprised about myself!

If this is the future of Burnley bring on the B^£$":@S, under JUDAS we were too open at the back. This is all cool if you are Brasil, Argentina or Barcelona, but i think TOTAL FOTBALL was too opsomistic for Burnley.

Laws has come in and strenghtened the defence and i think is on the way to premiership survival. We still had it in attack and without the stupid errors under (JUDAS/MOSES/that turn coat **** who left for the glory land)

We will establish ourself as a Premier League Outfit over the next few years.

And the reason so many B@stard fans are on here is because they dont want to analyse their own team.

Monte's prediction

17 Burnley
18 Bolton
19 Hull
20 Portsmouth

My origional thought was Burnley 17th and B@stards to go down. Coyle is the new B@stard

Great game to watch. Thought we would get a (very deserved) point. Terrys goal should have been disallowed for a foul on Bikey and he was lucky to still be on the pitch as he was the last man when he fouled Blake. Given the benefit of the doubt as it was still a way out.
.
Impressed with the substitution of KM for Patto. Cole wasn't as dangerous when he came on.

Cort seemed to fit in and Edgar managed well at left back.

As soon as they get television in Blackburn they will be able to see how well we are playing for themselves. I bet they can't wait.

Look at all the stupid Raaawvers fans on here - last week is was 'Get Sam Out' and this week he is going to lead them into Europe - what a set of fickle, clueless country bumpkins.
.
As for Burnley a good performance and we looked a lot more solid at the back against the side that will walk to the title this year. We have winnable home games to come against West Ham, Wolves, Pompey & those hill-dwellers, as well as trips to Hull etc, so more than enough points for us to stay up.

philipmorris, Accrington says...
11:43am Mon 1 Feb 10

Its not and never has been games against Chelsea which decide whether we stay up.That said they rested two front-line strikers so I wouldnt get too excited.

The games which will determine our fate are the next four home games against bottom half teams. We need to win three of them ( draws are no good now ) to have a realistic chance of staying up. But if teams below us display poor form we might not need to clock up these wins.

One final thought : the LT journos today rated Bikley's performance as impressive yet regarded him as at fault for both goals. This has cost us a point which may well be decisive at the end of the season. Am i missing something here are is there a serious problem with their IQs?. Read their columns : yet more insults to our intelligence. The whole point of good defending, you dimwits, is to cut out faults which result in opposition goals.
Ossy Claret

batfastard, Burnley says...
11:49am Mon 1 Feb 10

Personally I wouldn't say Bikey was at fault for the second goal - JT was Carlisle's man at the corner.
Also for the first goal he did switch off for a second and failed to track Anelka's movement, but in his credit he was playing as a midfielder and he was the furthest player back when the ball came into the penalty area.

I just think that when a centre half playing out of position in midfield is the key player and kept Lampard quiet, and also overshone the likes of Joe Cole, Deco, Ballack etc then he deserved his accolade as Man of the Match. All in my opinion, of course.
Again, in Bikey's defence for the first goal, most of the credit HAS to go for the movement of Anelka - a lot better defenders (Or midfielders!) would have been lost by the angle of his run

Fair comments but the bottom line is the error cost us a vital point which could be the difference between going down and staying up especiallty with our goal difference which is de facto costing us a point.
Its not MOM awards that matter its points at all costs.

Having said that Im contradicting my earlier post ( that results against the likes of Chelsea dont matter that much) and no harm in recognising a good overall performance against quality opposition.

Where we would agree, I think, is that we need more performances like Bikey's throughout the team. If we had there would be no worries.

Hey you retarded fat pr*ck. Have you nothing better to do with your sad life than post your absolute bull*it on here? Anyway what match were you watching? Chelsea did'nt even get out of first gear to beat the scruff. They could'nt be ars*d it was that easy...
.
Hey lardy, what benefit are the working people of this country providing for you so that you can sit on your fat lazy arse all day then? Its probably Incapacity with a disability premium no doubt because you probably sh*t where you eat.....
.
Not only are you stuffing pork pies down your neck all day your also telling them, you hideous baboon?Scruffville has the Highest levels of depravation in Lancashire fatty, thats a FACT. No wonder the population of the Shi*hole decreases every year. Anybody with an ounce of grey matter does one ASAP
.
Back to football. Everyone knows that the joke that Is BFC is going down. You're just another Hull without the points... Did well initially, found out big style, and then bombed. The difference is that they survived, The scruff won't, You'll be lucky to finish 3rd from bottom arbuckle.
.
Lets have it right, the scruff are a poor parody of a premiership team who's boards main interest is money. They have no interest in this league. No wonder Coyle got out. Word has it tha he couldn't stand the place or the "morons" who lived there and knew the journeyman team was'nt good enough.
.
Who's your next match?
.
The Hammers will beat you because they have quality players.
.
Next week its 2nd from bottom for the scruff and I'll be here to gloat, you dole dossing sponger.
.
BFC.......Just not good enough
