New Burnley striker Fletcher lives the dream

BURNLEY have smashed their club transfer record by signing Hibernian striker Steven Fletcher for £3million.

The 22-year-old put pen to paper on a four-year deal just hours after the Clarets unveiled Derby County right back Tyrone Mears as their first new arrival since winning promotion to the Premier League over a month ago.

Fletcher’s fee doubles what Owen Coyle paid to bring Martin Paterson from Scunthorpe United and Chris Eagles from Manchester United last summer as he built his squad for a top six finish.

Now, following their play-off final win at Wembley, the focus is on cementing themselves in the top flight, and the Burnley boss sees the capture of Fletcher as a real coup.

The Scotland international was targeted by Celtic in the January transfer window and later linked with Real Madrid.

But the opportunity to work with Coyle, in the English Premier League, proved too tempting for Fletcher to resist.

“As soon as I heard that Burnley were after me, and knowing Owen Coyle as I do from my time in Scotland, I thought this was the right place to come and develop my career,” said the Shrewsbury-born forward.

“The opportunity came along in January for me to join Celtic, but Hibs did not think it was the right time to move on.

“When the chance arrived to come to the Premier League and play for a club like Burnley, I was glad they accepted that and let me come down.

“I have wanted to come to England for a while now to show people what I can do and I am so looking forward to it.

“I want to give 100 per cent and score goals and hopefully I can do that.”

He added: “I am absolutely delighted to sign for the club.

“It is a great feeling to be here and I am just looking forward to getting the season started now.”

"Flood and Clarets chief executive Paul Fletcher have both assured fans that Burnley will not risk falling through the divisions like Leeds after overspending in the Premier League."

What!!!!!!! These two are already talking about life "AFTER" the premier league. What a joke, they've no intention of competing and the only worthwhile signings that Brendans thinking of are the ones that'll be booking into hotel "BNPley Wood"

I can't wait to see the ambitious Dingles playing "pretty football" with a load of inexperienced kids, 2nd raters and SPL journeymen against full strength premiership sides....

As a Rovers supporter for 66 years, I can see that Burnley are doing their best with limited funds. There is no way that they, or us, can afford the ridiculous transfer fees, or wages, that are being dished out by the wealthy clubs. Burnley know that it will be tough in the Prem., but let us hope that they can stay up so that we can have two real "local derbies" every season, and if they, and their manager, can do it on a relative shoestring, so much the better. Welcome to the Premiership Burnley, you earned it.

Unlike the success starved Carrots, we aren't that keen on watching our reserves play another teams reserves.
Still, as they say, you have two choices of what to do for entertainment in BNPley - either watch the traffic lights change or watch the Carrots. 80% of the population chose the traffic lights.

If the BNPly fans cannot see all these players are for the Chumpionship,When they go down,They have got blinkers on.
