EL Hadji Diouf's lawyer has insisted allegations of assault against the Blackburn Rovers star are false.
He could face up to two years in jail after being charged with assaulting a woman in a Senegalese casino.
But in a statement his lawyer, Baboucar Cisse, said the alleged victim Khady Sy 'filed a complaint without being able to establish the veracity of the allegations against Mr Diouf."
The statement said: “The charges against Mr Diouf are clearly erroneous.
“The allegations are trivial and fabricated. Mr Diouf has not been remanded and is allowed free movement.
“Mr Diouf is a footballer of high praise, adored by his country that he brings every happiness to and remains a leading figure for the Senegalese people.”
The striker is back in Britain and available for selection for Rovers ahead of their away match at Tottenham Hotspur tomorrow. He may be required to return to face the allegations at a court in Senegal at a later date.
Diouf, 29, appeared in court while on a trip to his home country to attend a benefit concert for the victims of the Haiti earthquake.
Bosses at Rovers said Diouf had been given time off to return to Senegal after the personal request from the country’s president.
The charge of wounding with intent relates to an alleged incident at 6am on June 28 last year at the Casino du Cap Vert at the coastal resort of Almadies in Senegal.
The club would not comment on the allegations but it is understood that officials from Rovers have not spoken to the player about the issue.
