A MANCHESTER-BASED property developer is the latest name to be linked to a multi-million pound takeover of Blackburn Rovers.

It has been reported that Altrincham entrepreneur Nabeel Chowdery is looking into a possible £40 million deal to buy the Ewood Park outfit.

However, a spokesman for Rothschilds, the brokers working on behalf of the Walkers Trustees, said: “He hasn’t spoken to me although that doesn’t mean to say that he hasn’t spoken to anyone else at Rothschilds.

“Things are going slowly. From our point of view there is no new story at the moment.”

And Rovers chairman John Williams added: “Our position is that there are a number of interested parties, but there is no new news. There is nothing imminent.”

Chowdery was born to Pakistani parents before settling in Manchester from Faisalabad in the late 1950s.

His Property Route company has a portfolio valued at over half a billion pounds and he owns 11 main companies and, overall about 36 subsidiaries, leading him to be named 562nd richest person in the UK this year by the Sunday Times.

Chowdery, who is a friend of Rovers keeper Brad Friedel and does a great deal of work for charity, was reported to have said: “I think it’s probably worth £40m, but the price they are asking is too high. If they wanted to come to a realistic figure we could have a deal.

“I’m interested, but not at their level.

“It has to be the right deal for me. If it was a property deal I would instruct my people to look at it and come up with a figure.

“But it’s football and I think Rovers want someone to pay bigger because of the kudos and goodwill involved with being a football club.”

don't sell the club for peanuts. 40 million is nowhere near enough. 40 million for bentley and santa cruz.

If we are to be taken over by "funny money" - then we want somebody who is in League Div I (at least) in the funny money leagues - this guy is in Division 28 !!! and has zilch interest in BRFC.

My advice - give him the flick...

Asian businessmen based in South Manchester and Cheshire, with an interest in football, nearly always support Manchester United, so I would be very wary of any deal with this guy.

I can't imagine he has ANY interest in BRFC, apart from his friendship with Brad.

He's viewing it as a property transaction and wants a knock-down price but if the Walker Trustees are not desperate to sell, then they don't have to.

As far as the fans buying the club is concerned, £40 million divided by 20,000 fan base amounts to an average investment of £2000 each - realistic?

What people are failing to understand is that if the guy buys the Walkers shares he then effectively takes on the clubs debts. So 40 million is not the value of the players, ground, training facilities and commercial potential - its 40 million quid and then you get presumably 100 million in debt & loans as well

if rovers fans where to try and buy the club they would need to put in atleast £4000 each. 40 million to buy the club 40 million towards club debts and new players.

it just aint gonna happen.. personally i would write a cheque now!

Should be looking to get an exclusive interview with the man instead of copying quotes from other journalists.

I can't imagine anything worse than Rovers fans owning the club. It would be almost as bad as going out of business.Very few have the appropriate premier league mindset/mentality (i.e Jack Walker-"think big") to take on such a task.

Honestly if Rovers fans ever owned this club I would probably kill myself rather than stay alive to see it. I wouldn't be interested in owning a 0000000.1 percent stake or something eiether which would probably be each fans percentage if they owned the club. The only way I would ever own a football club is with 100% control.

Chowdery's fortune might not be the biggest but I would rather have an owner with 150 million who contributes something than owners with 700+ contributing nothing.

Question...why is Chowdery being quoted a higher price than Ronnie. Now surely the Walkers aren't being greedy and trying to start a bidding war.

funny money?? you on. Yeah lets all 20,000 fans chip in £4,000 each. Does that mean the kids chip this in too cause pretty certain they won't have 4k lying around!! This guy would be great for rovers as he would invest money, unlike the current trustees who should be ashamed to carry the Walker name. Give this guy a go, his money is better than Dan Williams who really didn't have any cash, apart from a small recruitment firm that would hardly pay the players wages!!
