QPR confirm Hoilett signing

QPR have confirmed that they have signed Junior Hoilett on a four-year contract.

Hoilett joins the London side after turning down the offer of a new deal at Blackburn Rovers.

The two clubs must now agree a compensation deal for the 22-year-old, with Rovers owed a training fee under the terms of the Bosman ruling.

Thats good news tbh given he looked like he could go abroad. He's not THAT good, so in all likelihood the compensation figure won't be too far off what we might have got for him on the open market anyway.

"He's not that good ?" - you name a current Rovers attacking player that is better than Hoillet - err NONE.

QPR have got him at a snip - the give us £4-6m after the tribunal and he has one reasonably good season (he is already widely rated by many in the football world) and his value will be up around the £12-15m region.

Kean and Venkys made a horrendous ERROR 14 months ago not tieing him up on a new contract or selling him last summer - just yet another example of incompetant management under these moronic numpties that have corrupted our club

What you think we'll be a better team for losing Hoilett ? - get real.

He was far from perfect but for our clubs level he was a class act and I fully expect MH to bring him on to another level yet.

Don't you get it ?? - Every time we lose our best players (Yak, Hoilett, Jnr, Ollson, N'Zonzi etc) and replace them with inferior Portugese no-bodies then our side gets weaker - not stronger !!

Good to see Hoilett has signed for a "big club", and got his wish. In my opinion, whilst he has undoubted talent, he also has the ability to go missing in games, at times, and will not always track back.

Hughes will obviously try to alter this, however, last season he sometimes struggled to last 90 minutes. With the extra workload and responsibility he could end up a 45 minute man, or more likely a bench warmer.

Will he be bothered, with a four year contract in his pocket? Some players want to play regularly, others want a nice contract. I wonder which bracket Hoilett is in?

It will be interesting to see how Hoilett does in a team with a good manager. He has always showed potential but gone missing now and then. When Stevie W*n*er took over and promised attacking football, Hoilett must have thought it would be better than Fat Sam's hoofball at least. But then the promises failed to materialise and there was no arsenal type play junior could of slotted into. So sensibly he hung on to see if Venky's and their mouthpiece would make the right signings.
.
I can't blame him for his attitude, although he didn't show the character to give 100% on the field consistently. If he had done that there would have been a big fee. But he'll say it was the manager and the club that didn't suit him, depressed him or whatever.
.
It will be interesting to see just how good he can become in an attacking team with good coaching.

Good luck to him. Can't blame him for leaving the sinking ship. At least he'll be playing for a proper football manager, and will likely improve to give QPR a future profit. Strange that he's gone since Walter Mitty kept repeating he would be re-signing in 24 hours!

At least signing for QPR will keep Venky's happy - more millions for the back pocket rather than a few grand if he'd gone to Germany.

How many more will be leaving the sinking ship? More to the point, we are nearly down to the lifeboat stage!

I know your comment got a lot of negative marks but you are not far from the truth. The Opta stats for midfielders was produced last week and it clearly showed Hoilett was a very poor crosser and passer of the ball. He was one of the worst in the PL. On the other hand it showed greedy boy liked to dribble and have shots which he scored quite highly at.
More telling than all of that though was the Opta charts showed that Rovers only had one wide player worth marking and including. All the other teams, including the ones that went down, had three wide players on the charting system. Rovers just the one.
This just highlights the imbalance and lack of quality in the squad that doughnut had assembled. So when you take into account we had the fewest crosses delivered into the box from wide areas than any other team, its no wonder we went down, especially when we were relying on greedy boys ridiculous crossing ability.

greedy - no.
he saw out his contract and was always available.
lazy -yes.
his and others lack of teamwork contributed to our relegation, I know its hard to pin relegation on their door (with the manager we have!) but they did not help matters at all.
ambitious - no.
Why would he join a small west london club that escaped relegation by a whisker last season when he could have joined BM and played in the Champions league? I think he expected Arsenal coming in for him or even MU but when they didn't come calling that only left the likes of QPR and Sunderland and Stoke....not what you would call a big step forwards for the lad.

But good luck Junior - I hope you get what you want but I think you are going to need luck it if you are going to avoid going the way of Bentley and others...

Perhaps the dropping from the team gave him the boot up the behind to improve matters. I cannot see Hughes putting up with a player who does not close down the opposition and work his socks off. What Hoilett has said about teaming back up with a great manager in Hughes speaks volumes for the nothing he said about Kean.

Kean in May “We may lose a few players but I would say no more than 3 or 4”
Thanks for that because in my opinion Hoilett, Yak and nZonzi were our 3 best players last season.
Kean last week on Sky “I believe we have a stronger squad than we had last season”
Replaced by Best, 2 ‘one foot in the grave’ players and a host of young no-marks. If this doesn’t hi-light Kean for the w##k#r he is nothing will.

With Dann & Olsson likely to go, plus the players already gone, then that has blown conman Kean,s claim out the water of "a stronger the squad then last year".
He is already struggling badly I feel, with what he has brought on board, and with three weeks to go would need to find bring in an additional 3-4 quaulity/experienced
/commited players into his team culture (for want of a better word) to have any chance of "hitting the ground running".
Thing is he cannot hide from the first months of team performances no matter what amount of cheap talk may come from Dunn, Orr and other very grateful squad members or staff members.
My message to them all is VERY SIMPLE.... to STAY focus on what is needed throughout the season and if their best is clearly no good enough after the first 10 games...LET US SEE BIG CHANGES THAT WE ALL KNOW (APART FROM THE VENKY,S CIRCUS CREW) ARE WELL OVERDUE.

Football is basically a simple game - better players make BETTER teams, worse players make WORSE teams - SIMPLES !!
Best players????
Hoilett, Ollson and N'Zonzi were slagged off on here last season

The Opta Index doesn't reflect what tactics the manager used. Hoilett is a wide player but he was often played on the left so he could cut in and shoot with his right or sat just behind Yakubu. As for the lack of crosses, you've got to have the ball often enough near the by-line to send them in and you especially need players in there capable of converting them.

Has it not occurred to anybody that Hoilett wasn't completely to blame for not defending enough either? He could've been told to stay upfield ready for the counter attack. After all, Rochina and Formica were also found hanging around the halfway line when playing on the wing. Kean's tactics doesn't make Hoilett a poor player.

For those sneering at Hoilett's decision to join QPR, bear in mind that they went through a huge transition mid-season which no doubt affected them, but they managed to stay up. I'm not saying their going to be World beaters but I can't see them struggling either. Hoilett probably knew he wouldn't be a definite starter at a bigger club so a few years at what will probably be a mid-table Premier League team seems a good choice. (For those saying Hoilett wanted to join a top European club, please post a link to any such quote.)

For those calling him greedy, remember that Kean stated himself that Rovers had put a very lucrative offer on the table. He honoured his contract but clearly didn't want to play in this division, especially under this regime. Funny, when Samba forced a move through people were saying he signed a contract and should honour it but when a player does he's called greedy for wanting to further his career.

Hoillet is a good player, but with some weaknesses although lots of potential. Mark Hughes is the ideal manager to bring that potential out of him. So QPR have got a good player and one that will be worth a lot of money after a few years under Hughes. Compare Blackburn. They couldn't keep him because of the incompetence of Kean, they could not develop him because of Kean can't do that, and they miss out on the player's value enhancement because of Kean.
Blackburn supporters know all this, but Venky's don't. The Hoillet episode has cost Venky's a fortune because they are too STUPID and appointed a manager who is almost as gormless as they are.
How many further disasters and embarrassments lie in store before the start of the season? How many matches in before Rovers win a point? Will Rovers win a point before Kean gets his P45.
How much payoff will Kean get when he is belatedly sacked for destroying the club?

Planet check required for you. How on earth is it Keans fault? Sam would not even use him, SK put him in and gave him his break.
junior stated that he was grateful to Sk for that on many occassions. Hoillet Snr has consistently refused offers for his son's services in order to gain a direct signing on fee. I wonder how much the dad & son have trousered from QPR..
Oh no , I forgot corruption only happens at Rovers in football, it is a one way street.
Short version, stop talking crap
ITS all about the money, money money
Btw if Venkys only asset strip why have they let his contract run out by trying to keep him?

Again, I think the sole reason why Junior has left is because he could not play under a lousy manager and lousy owners. Sadly, I think 1st Division football in season 2013/14 is strong possibility and then followed by 2nd Division football in 2014/15. Yes, the club is in dreadful health and there are no signs of it getting better; there is not even a flicker of hope as long as Kean is involved in the club in any shape or form. This club is rotten to the core.

Oh dear completely missed this thread, lets clear one thing up straight away. When I referred to Hoilett as greedy boy, I was not referring to his demand for monies, I was referring to his self glorification, or his lack of picking out a decent pass for a team mate when he could pass to himself, which the opta stats back up and you back up also saying hoilett used to like cutting inside beating a man and getting a shot away, correct he did, and all the time our centre forward stood and watched with his hands on his hips as greedy boy fed his own ego. Hoilett was not a team player. He thinks of himself and always has, both on the field and off the field. If you want to look at a player to give you an idea of the greedy boy tag that I dish out look no further than the player who Hoilett is a carbon copy of. C'mon down Mr shaun wright phillips, another greedy boy who can't cross for sh1t but can manage to setup chances for himself time and time again. Could be Hoiletts long lost brother. Appalling crosser of the ball. Another yanker in a similar vein is me me me Theo walcot although his crossing is head and shoulders above the other two pretenders. Hope that makes it clearer for you. I have no objections to Hoilett moving on. Because if we replace him with a team player we might get more joy up front for Nunes who is good in the air.

Just a thought....

Sorry if I misunderstood which definition of greed you were referring too. However, I still think you're wrong about him not being a team player. You can quote all the stats you want but as I've already alluded to, they don't tell you everything about a player or his team. Ok, Hoilett didn't put in as many crosses from the wing as the likes of Silva, Walcott or Young. Do the stats mention that it's because those players were in teams who spent a lot of time in the opposition's final third, while Hoilett was part of a team who spent a lot of time in their own third, usually relying on the counter-attack to get their goals?

Speaking of counter-attacks, as I recall, whenever we went on one it was the fans screaming, "give it to Hoilett!" Why did they do that? Oh, that's right, because he had pace, could jink his way past defenders and score goals. That's what he brought to the table, his contribution to the team. He always tried his hardest going forward but it doesn't automatically mean that there were players in the right positions to cross to. Something else the stats won't mention. I'm not disagreeing that it's a poor number of crosses but I am aware that the stats reflect the team, not just the player.

As for replacing him with a 'team player' who can cross the ball in for Nunes, I think we'll see that Nunes is that replacement - seeing as how he's a winger - and therefore won't be able to cross it in to himself. Unless he lobs it really high and runs on to meet his own pass. Although that won't be very effective. Nor will it make him a team player.

Hope that clears that up for you.

Yes it clears it up for me, but I will concede Hoilett is a very good player, he can create problems but it wasn't only his lack of putting the ball in the danger area that I'm getting at, its his accuracy at getting it in there when he did. One of the best wingers in the season last year in the PL was Petrov at Bolton. further down the list of the top five was Eagles at Bolton, so we can conclude that Bolton had a more attacking formation than we had and they still went down. There has to be a balance which Keanochio fails to even notice. But I would say if Bolton had had a better centre forward than 1 in 7 Ngog and 1 in 7 Davies and someone from midfield who could have got in the box to support lard arse and the pipe cleaner. They would have stayed up.
Whereas Rovers were very one dimensional as you say giving it to Hoilett and watching him go. Towards the end of the season teams had worked that one out. Shame really as we had Veukovic and Rochina who could have operated on the opposite flank and made us more aggresive going forward. This was done because Keanochio had fallen out with Nzonzi who should have been in the middle, so we were playing the two slugs Dunn and Pedersen in the centre so needed a more defensive minded midfielder on the right to try and combat our lack of pace right through the middle. So Rochina and veuky just got splinters in their arse whilst we watched the whole game plan stagnate. All to feed Keanochio's ego. The guy is that thick skinned he refused to play Nzonzi and would have sooner got relegated, which is exactly what happened. The guy needs sacking on the Nzonzi decision alone. I'm pretty certain if Big Sam or Hughsie had had a massive ding dong with Nzonzi, they would have been more intelligent to realise, even though he isn't the greatest holding midfielder in the world, his presence would have allowed us to be more expansive on the right and possibly play more games with two up top. That would have saved us from the drop.
I mean look at Hughsie and the way he has dealt with Dibrellee Cisse, I know you don't spell it like that but I can't be bothered looking it up, this guy got sent off twice in the run in and was banned for a large number of games. But Hughsie still recognised that he would, if he could keep him on the pitch, save them from relegation. And thats exactly what he did. The sign of a great manager with great man management skills.
So to sum up. Hoilett is a great exciting player, just greedy and not a team player. I only hope that Hughsie turns him into one, even Hughsie could not stop Shaun Wright Phillips being a greedy boy, thats why eventually he dropped his arse and went with someone else.

Also, on your point about Nunes, yes he is a winger, but he is also very good in the air, just as Ronaldo is, and if you are again presuming we are only going to play with one winger then I agree with what you say. But not only can Nunes put in a great ball, he can also get on the end of one thats been put in from the opposite flank.
I think with your comment you were trying to be a bit cheeky but heyho, as you advocate the lets play with one winger and everything is rosey game, I tend to ignore your obvious tactical naivety. Most football teams play with two wingers, I just thought I'd point out an obvious hole in your team plan.
So as you are obviously so lacking with football tactics by saying we should only play with one winger, and you think Hoilett was a team player my next question may clear this argument up for everyone.
Are you Steve Kean because you are ferkin thick at football tactics

Didn't Hoilett staying depend on him (Kean) being retained as manager? At least that's what he is alleged to have persuaded the owners to swallow. Nothing has changed down at Ewood. Two things required to change things - new owners and a new manager, and I fear neither will happen.

I am not tactically naive, nor am I advocating the 'let's play with one winger and everything is rosey' game, as you curiously put it. My comments were made a bit 'tongue-in-cheek' as I was certain that you meant to say Nuno Gomes was a good header of the ball, not Nunes. After all, he is a striker who's job it is to get on the end of crosses whereas that's not really in a winger's remit, at least not primarily. However, I'm guessing that, since you maintain that he was the player you were talking about, this is where you inform me that you saw Nunes play in his single appearance for Portimonense SC in the Portuguese second division. And you also saw him star against Fleetwood and Rochdale, where he crossed with his head, passed with his head, beat the opposition with his head... well, he did everything with his head. Except score with it.

yeah okay i concede i meant gomes, but who is to say which one of these portugeezer mincers plays where, in keans head they could be at centre back like nzonzi was, or centre mid like pedersen was, or centre forward like hoilett was or right wing like salgado was or right back like lowe was, do you get the picture.
My argument is that hoilett isn't a team player. The opta stats back it up, but your argument is that he is beacuse you say so, because you are steve kean.

My argument isn't because I say so at all. My argument is that the Opta Index only accounts for specific actions, not individual scenarios. Yes, it can tell you how many more crosses Silva had than Hoilett but it doesn't tell you how many times they got to the by-line, how many players were marking them, the number of teammates, if any, we're available to receive a pass, etc.

That's a perfectly reasonable argument and in no way makes me Steve Kean.

In fact, if I was Kean wouldn't I be agreeing with you? Hoilett's signed for QPR despite 'me' spending the last year telling everyone he was signing a new contract imminently. 'My' ego is massively dented, after all, "'I' gave him his chance and he's turned his back on 'me' so f*** him!"

We're not going to agree on this but I'll respect your opinion. You think he was greedy, I think he was just doing what he was told to do... "If the Yak isn't free just go for goal!" Kean clearly favours the 'cut-in from the opposite flank and shoot' tactic as he played left-footed Nunes on the right and that's exactly what he spent the game doing. I just hope Vukcevic gets a fair run out this season.

I agree with Vukcevic, he looks a decent player, but he's another who kean couldn't paly because of Keans spat with Nzonzi. Formica and rochina both looked like they may have enough to unlock a defence as well. My only hope is we can keep hold of them. Olsson was okay going forward but pretty average at the back. And speaking of Average. Paul Robinson was very poor so he can leave for me.
Okay so we will agree to disagree. My only hope for the forthcoming season is at least for players to play in the position they are supposed to. That would be a start at least. Too many players last year were square pegs in round holes.

Robinson kept his place because of who he was and what he's done. If you went on performance alone he would've never regained his place from Bunn.

'Kean and Venkys made a horrendous ERROR 14 months ago not tieing him up on a new contract or selling him last summer - just yet another example of incompetant management under these moronic numpties that have corrupted our has club' This greedy player has repeatedly turned down improved contracts, so its hardly the owners fault, yet you wanted them to sell him. Damned if they do damned if they don't
I wanted to sell him ? - if they couldnt get him to sign a contract 14 months ago then YES I think that he should have been sold last summer - then we would have got a larger fee for him. I don't understand why you seem to be slagging him off - he honoured the contract he signed with BRFC - so he's turned us down and has signed for a club in the PL, a better manager, a club going forwards (unlike ourselves who are going backwards) and yes, no doubt he's now on a larger pay packet - good for him, who wouldnt want to earn more money for doing the same job and for the same hours - thats not being gready, thats normal human behaviour.
In fairness to Kean, BFS hadn't given him much much game-time (well, he is under 6 2) and it was the useless one who gave him a go. He had only played for half a season as a result; so would he really have been worth THAT much more last summer than this? Even after his contract has expired.

It would still have been normal practice to try and sell him if he wasn't going to re-sign but adhering to football's "normal practice" seems to be an anathema to these people.

However, they wouldn't have been able to sell him regardless if he just wanted to sit on his contract and get a better deal for himself when it ran out.

"We want you to stay"
"Well I want to go"
"OK, we want to go, now"
"Well I want to stay then....for a while"
