FULL TIME: Rochdale 1 Blackburn Rovers 0

BLACKBURN Rovers lost 1-0 to Rochdale in this evening's pre-season friendly at Spotland.

Joe Thompson's 76th minute goal was enough to win the game for the hosts as Rovers struggled to put anything together all evening.

Neither side were able to create much in the opening 45 minutes, with both goalkeepers spectators for the majority.

Fabio Nunes shot inches wide for Rovers, while Rochdale went close through George Donnelly.

After the break, the impressive Nunes had a shot cleared off the line, while David Dunn and David Goodwillie were off target.

At the other end, Jake Kean saved well from Danny Johnson as Rochdale gave as good as they got.

The hosts took the lead on 76 minutes as Joe Thompson raced behind Rovers' defence to squeeze a shot past Kean and Grant Hanley.

Rovers: Paul Robinson (Jake Kean 46), Bruno Ribeiro (Radosav Petrovic 85), Scott Dann (Grant Hanley 67), Gael Givet, Josh Morris (Adam Henley 67), Fabio Nunes (Marcus Olsson 75), Danny Murphy (Paulo Jorge 85), Jason Lowe, Mauro Formica (Ruben Rochina 75), David Goodwillie (Edinho 80), Nuno Gomes (David Dunn 46)

Brilliant so glad I chose not to leave work early and go to the game. So currently we are 1 for 3 in friendlies and whilst preseason games are mostly meaningless in my view, this stinks.

I usually agree that you cant read too much into friendlies but with this muppet in charge you can't help but fear the worst.by the way i would love to see rochina given a run in the team this year but only getting 15 mins tonight doesnt bode well.

I normally don't read anything into pre season games but jeez we are losing to very poor sides. If anyone thought it would be easier next season, it won't. Another one down at the bottom of the league as the club slips further into the brown stuff.

I could not get to Rochdale tonight because of work. I am now quite pleased I missed it.
Please tell me Kean got a lot of stick at the end or better still during the game.
If Shebby wants the fans on side he must surely listen to them at the games
Before anyone tells me these games dont matter.
Tell that to the Accy Stanley and Rochdale players
I bet Alex Ferguson doesnt say it never mind boys if they get beat in a friendly
Sorry Mr Kean you surely must go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mr Kean is very consistent at least. Another defeat and no clean sheet. He can talk the talk but has never walked the walk which is the most important thing. It must have been another "young" side full of what is going to be our first team.

Kean out.

Dann, Goodwillie, Lowe, Formica....it doesn't get any better. All 3 very poor.

Dennis Irwin.....actually, pretty good.
Nunes & Morris....terrific. Must start both next season.

Ok so what is the next move. If any genuine Rovers supporter (Messers Agnew, Cryer & Shaw included) actually believes that the club is moving in the right direction and Kean is the right person for the job then please would you explain to me why you think so.
Forget the drink driving it is not relevant, but consider one thing PERFORMANCE which apart from an odd fluke brings results. The performances have been debatable but the results are catastrophic, the team out tonight will be VERY similar to that against Ipswich, I understand it is about fitness etc but the same is for Rochdale,. I will listen to reason if anyone out there is more informed than I. However in my opinion if we do not change the leadership now we will fail in the bid for promotion, at best obtain mid table status and the worse well we all know that but hey Kean won't talk about it so it won't happen....will it?

Unacceptable result. Completely unacceptable. we need defenders these guys are completely devoid of any confidence. They have tasted defeat on far too many occasions and now are becoming accustomed to losing, which is a disgrace. Kean you are on borrowed time. You couldn't motivate a bunch of schoolkids, go back to putting the cones out, and passing out bibs. Can't wait for you to be potted. If you are ever employed in football again I will be amazed.

I presume you didnt go to the game because I can't believe anyone who witnessed that 90 mins would call it "a fantastic workout"..

whilst results ARE secondary in friendlies its not just about getting a runnaround and sharpening your fitness, you still have to be organsied, be tactically aware, pass and move, create chances, sharpen your game and play (tactically) like you expect to do in your opening league fixture - there was very little of this in evidance (again) tonight.

Kean picked a very strong team tonight but yet again it was very very toothless and his inability to tactically change things round DURING a game was, yet again glaringly obvious tonight.

Having been relegated, players confidance probably a bit low, the fans very unhappy and at odds with "the club" these 4 friendlies were a chance to get fit AND score a few goals, dominate a few games, get fans (a little bit) back on board and players confidance up alittle - yet we have failed to do any of these things have lost in 3 of the 4.

And when people say "results don't matter at all in friendlies" - take a look at winners like Sir AF and AW - their teams play much harder friendlies than the 4 teams we've just played and they don't lose too many of their friendlies - get fit, yes but still get the ball in the back of the net - that is what football is about.

Winners win, losers (like Kean) lose - the guy is playing teams with far inferior players and still manages to lose 75% of the time - he is completely and utterley useless !

Thought Nunes shows promise but very left-footed.
A lack of quality was obvious tonight.

However, it's all about game time and building fitness.

Felt tonight shouting 'Kean Out' was pointless, just let his team do the talking cos on what I'm seeing there's not much to get excited about.

I think you've hit the nail on the head there - "lack of quality" - on paper we seem to have lots of talented (attacking) players but under Kean it very rarely comes together - coupled with the fact that he can't get his sides to keep clean sheets and he is tactically useless and it is a disasterous LOSING formula which repeats itself week after week after week - and always will do, the guy simply dosent have what it takes to manage a football team, not now not ever.

The owners and management are an embarrassment to the good folk of this Lancashire town. Gone has the excellent work, of over 100 years, in keeping the club a big part of the community and respected nation wide and further afield culminating in the Premier league title and a safe position in the top flight. All now a distant memory as the current regime takes us towards the abyss. We are sick and tired of excuses,we are sick and tired of listening to the bunch of novices. we are sick and tired of the lies, and most of all we are sick to death of the rantings of a manager way out of his depth of football management skills along with his seemingly lack of any decency and integrity. My one legged blind granny would be a world better than Kean!

But McCarthy is not the answer. He talks very honestly (which would be quite refreshing after this lot) and he is apparently a very nice chap - but Wolves fans said he was rubbish at tactics and very stubborn - often persisting with players who were his favourites but who were not performing on the field. Used to drive the Wolves fans barmy with his silly after match statements sometimes too.
Does that not sound like someone we know only too well already.....
Not sure who would make a good replacement now?
Bodger Bruce has found employment again and also Laudrup has gone, who I really would have liked here. Curbs is still free I think? He could be a good be from an experience point of view.

No doubt McCarthy divides supporter opinion almost as much as Big Sam does. I do think you are wildly optimistic bandying around such names as Curbishley. There was an air of apathy last night with the half hearted "Kean Out" chants at the end. If anger is turning to apathy I really can see Ewood attendances falling drastically.

I’ve supported the Rovers for around 50 years and never felt so low regarding the club and it’s future. I fear another Portsmouth situation is looming on the horizon if things don’t change. Until then out with the charlatans, out with the incompetents, out with the parasites and their advisors. RIP BRFC as we knew it.

I was being VERY VERY sarcastic. Anyone on here knows what I think of the shower of imposters playing at runnind the club.

For what it's worth my opinion is 10 games in the likely scenario is W2 D2 L6. Kean will say something like ' we are now used to the pace of this league, the foreign plaeyrs have bedded in and we will now go on a run and push for the play offs.

A really ridiculous scenario I know, but the 40% drop in wages suffered by som eof the players due to relegation, obviously saves the club wages. Does a further relegation mean another drop in wages? Parachute money continues for 4 years irrespective of what division we play in. League one wages may be so low Venkys still make a profit next year and the year after.

By the way does anyone know if Kean had to suffer a 40% drop in his wages?

You can say that friendlies arn't meaningful but I remmeber watching the pre-season hong kong tour last year and seeing how desperately poor we were, even the friendly against Pune FC I think was about 2-0 to Rovers against a bottom of the barell team - Look what happened that season. It was blatently obvious that we were gonna die hard last year and its looking even worse this year. If there was any hunger whatsoever from the Rovers players we'd be winning these friendlies comfortably 4-5 to nil. Opposition like Rochdale, Accy and Macclesfield should not really even get a hold of the ball against a team thats 'looking to be' in the prem.

No good appealing to Shabby, Darener. Pre season friendlies are not about getting fit. Training is for getting fit. Friendlies are dress rehearsals for the season about to start in which everything is meant to come together and some fine tuning is carried out to put a polishe on the team preparation. As could be predicted Rovers have been diabolical in their friendlies. Promotion from the championship is a laughable notion, but relegation from the championship is a very real danger. The few remaining players from the old squad are very poor and have no confidence. There are so many new players that they will have no cohesion and are also largely non-entities. The manager is inept, corrupt, a national joke and hated by the supporters. The club is riven by dissent and the only real authority is some batty old **** in India. Rovers best hope for the coming season is that they are heavily defeated in every single match right from the get-go so that Kean is fired with enough of the season left to scrap together sufficient points to avoid relegation. The problem is that it is very unlikely that any decent manager or anyone with potential would work for the Venky's. Even unemployment would be preferable than career suicide working for those t@ssers. So the future is very grim and no turn around can be expected until Venkys sell out. This process can be helped on it's way if no -one buys a season ticket.

The spending this summer will be less than what comes in and the wages are reduced. Granted the income will be lower, due to lower TV and gate money, but which ever way you look at it this lot are on to a winner.

I know the BRAG met the football league yesterday, so hopefully the truth about all this will start to come out. Lets geat a real clean slate sorted, out with the owners and all who currently influence things and in with someone who has the clubs future at heart.

Kean needs to go and quickly ,they need to get a new manager in place and then the fans will come back and get behind the club then we will have at least half a chance to attempt a promotion push even then it is going to be a long hard road but at least we would all be in it together.

20/1 to get relegated is the best price with BET365 I think - 14 teams more likely to get relegated according to the bookies.

We are 10/1 to win the championship and anywhere from 7/2 to 5/1 (best bet) to get promoted. Rovers are generally fourth favourites to win promotion with all of the bookies.

.
It may be that they suspect that Kean will be on his way if the results continue to go wrong, we can only hope against hope that is the case.
.
I am actually dreading the start of the season now because we are already a laughing stock and I suspect it can only get worse.

Even though I bought my ST at the last minute I really don't want to go down to Ewood anymore, I am rapidly loosing interest in the club I have supported through thick and thin for over 40 years.

Steve Kean spoke of the Championship 'fearing' Rovers. What an insult to the Championship. What a rude awakening he is going to be in for. Ipswich won't believe their luck when this bunch of jokers turns up at Portman Road in three weeks time. No goals, no defence, no spirit, no energy, no passion, no gameplan. Then you have Kean, Black, Brunskill and Hendry stood there for 90 minutes, arms folded, not a word of encouragement from any of them.

Before anyone starts with the 'its only a friendly' line, yes, I know, and I'm not bothered about the result. All I want to see is some positive, some indication that this season will be an improvement on last. Sadly the players might be different but the results and direction this club is going in won't be. Anyone spotted the one constant through all of this? That's right, the guy who put bibs and cones out for Sam Allardyce and Chris Coleman. He's dragging this club through the mud and down to his level, which will probably be the bottom half of League One.

Never mind, things might change if Venkys carry on 'splashing the cash' and sign some more Portuguese trialist under 19s.

Sing won't do anything but obey his superiors. Kean happens to be one of them. I wouldn't trust him any more than I would trust Desai, Kean or Hendry. He's shown how honest he is by backtracking on Kean as soon as Venky's flashed their cash at him.

Hendry`s comment when signing his contract with Rovers, " I`m back here to add my voice to the three voices and opinions that are already here , Hendry said 4 voices are better than 3 !
Nowt to do with the 7,000 quid a week for being Kean`s tea boy.
How many times will Hendry betray Rovers supporters .

Kean did get some abuse tonight...not loads but enough.

Dann, Goodwillie, Lowe, Formica....it doesn't get any better. All 3 very poor.
Murphy....class act but very disappointing tonight.
Dennis Irwin.....actually, pretty good.
Nunes & Morris....terrific. Must start both next season.
Dann, that's one, goodwilly, that's two, Lowe , that's three, Formica , that's four, now I know the people of blackburn are substandard in their education, but surely , can't even count to four?
I'm sure with a bit of practice you could count to six, just use your fingers to help you, I wouldn't worry to much about the pre season, Blackburn have spent a lot of money, saying that, they needn't have done, my grandad used to play footie, he said he's now about the right age to get a contract at Blackburn , you could get him on a free, only thing, with him being 78, he feels he's on his last legs, can he have a 2 yr deal?
We can't count, you can't spell or use the correct grammar! Welcome to our illiterate world! Ha ha!

Personally I am sure they know all about it.

You'll be aware of the expression "opening a can of worms".

It's a football thing, it's corrupt but they're all feeding from it, so don't care.

The sad thing is...Hendry was a sh1t manager but even he is more qualified to manage the club than the clueless idiot he works for!! Venky's need to get out or get a grip...the whole fiasco is making their brand look pathetic and foolish. They either need to sell up or sack Kean/Hendry etc and get an experienced manager - someone who actually has a track record of winning football games (like Mick McCarthy). . Currently we have Steve Kean - 4 professional football games in the old fourth division as a player, worst Rovers' manager in the club's 120+ year history, convicted drunk driver plus another impending court appearance for defamation of a fellow manager's character.
That would be Mick (relegated with Sunderland and Wolves - as good as) McCarthy, I presume.
Are you suggesting that by highlighting McCarthys relegations with Sunderland and Wolves (wasn't Terry Connor manager of Wolves when they went down?) that you wouldn't prefer him as manager than Billy Bull5hit? I would rather have a wheelie bin in a dingle shirt on the touch line than that disgusting lying filth bag Kean.

Is this the same "family club" whose idiot supporters call themselves the suicide squad. Is it the same "family club" who have caused tens of thousands of poundsworth of damage to the Darwen end the last few times they have played us. Is it the same "family club" whose supporters were rated the third worse in the country for the number of arrests.

Hold on there Morst!!!

I think your memory is slightly playing tricks on you there...the Rovers fans didnt cut a hole in the net.

It was a boy who appeared at the side of the goal - the ball virtually came out of the net....after a superb goal by Lee Brogden I think.

I remember it well...as I was that boy!

The true story is that as the ball went in and my head went down he ball was virtually at my feet (Spotland, resembles Griffin Park in Blackburn as a ground) so to get the ball was not difficult.

My hero then and even now was Oh Roger Roger, Roger Roger Roger Jones!! Always copied the way he ran across his six yard box, in his green cotton gloves!

I appeared at the side of the goal and said to him "put it down for a goal kick, and pretend it didnt go in"!! To my amazement he did!!

The Ref then waved play on, this whilst the Rochdale players were still celebrating...when they realised what had happened you can imagine their reaction...it ended up with one of their players being sent off.

The arguments continued - eventually the ref and linesman came and checked the net and saw that the net wasnt quite pegged down, and then he gave the goal - cue the Rovers arguments!

After what seemed ages the game continued, and a good quiz question is that the ref who sent off the player actually brought him back on again!

According to the "Sports Pink" which I managed to get hold of at Blackburn Boule after the coach arrived back from the match Alf Thornton wrote "he had never seen anything like it , and he certainly had never seen a player sent off, and then brought back on"!! I mustget the old paper from out of the loft some day.

It was all done as a young lad with no malice intended - not sure what would happen nowadays though!

Did Tony Field score a penalty? The rest of the game was a bit of a blur!

Hope that puts your memory straight...it was a good number of years ago!!

Shaggy's really done a good job on you lot hasn't he? Talk about grasping at straws.

I'll let you into a secret. Shaggy is a walking BS artist, who thinks Steven Gerrard should play at right back and Ryan Giggs in central defence. He has no clue and no authority. He's there to bridge the gap between club and fans and he sucked some of you in including BRAG

He does have the match ball after his MOM award against Shewsbury

Yes I remember that well as I was there that day - but i like most fans on the ground didn't realise what had happened until we got back to Blackburn and read all about it in the paper! Wonder if anyone can find a link to the story after all this time?
