FULL TIME: Rochdale 1 Blackburn Rovers 0
9:17pm Wednesday 25th July 2012 in Blackburn Rovers & Premier League Table & Results
BLACKBURN Rovers lost 1-0 to Rochdale in this evening's pre-season friendly at Spotland.
Joe Thompson's 76th minute goal was enough to win the game for the hosts as Rovers struggled to put anything together all evening.
Neither side were able to create much in the opening 45 minutes, with both goalkeepers spectators for the majority.
Fabio Nunes shot inches wide for Rovers, while Rochdale went close through George Donnelly.
After the break, the impressive Nunes had a shot cleared off the line, while David Dunn and David Goodwillie were off target.
At the other end, Jake Kean saved well from Danny Johnson as Rochdale gave as good as they got.
The hosts took the lead on 76 minutes as Joe Thompson raced behind Rovers' defence to squeeze a shot past Kean and Grant Hanley.
Rovers: Paul Robinson (Jake Kean 46), Bruno Ribeiro (Radosav Petrovic 85), Scott Dann (Grant Hanley 67), Gael Givet, Josh Morris (Adam Henley 67), Fabio Nunes (Marcus Olsson 75), Danny Murphy (Paulo Jorge 85), Jason Lowe, Mauro Formica (Ruben Rochina 75), David Goodwillie (Edinho 80), Nuno Gomes (David Dunn 46)

Please tell me Kean got a lot of stick at the end or better still during the game.
If Shebby wants the fans on side he must surely listen to them at the games
Before anyone tells me these games dont matter.
Tell that to the Accy Stanley and Rochdale players
I bet Alex Ferguson doesnt say it never mind boys if they get beat in a friendly
Sorry Mr Kean you surely must go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Forget the drink driving it is not relevant, but consider one thing PERFORMANCE which apart from an odd fluke brings results. The performances have been debatable but the results are catastrophic, the team out tonight will be VERY similar to that against Ipswich, I understand it is about fitness etc but the same is for Rochdale,. I will listen to reason if anyone out there is more informed than I. However in my opinion if we do not change the leadership now we will fail in the bid for promotion, at best obtain mid table status and the worse well we all know that but hey Kean won't talk about it so it won't happen....will it?

FANTASTIC WORK OUT AND THE RESULT DOESN'T MATTER
whilst results ARE secondary in friendlies its not just about getting a runnaround and sharpening your fitness, you still have to be organsied, be tactically aware, pass and move, create chances, sharpen your game and play (tactically) like you expect to do in your opening league fixture - there was very little of this in evidance (again) tonight.
Kean picked a very strong team tonight but yet again it was very very toothless and his inability to tactically change things round DURING a game was, yet again glaringly obvious tonight.
Having been relegated, players confidance probably a bit low, the fans very unhappy and at odds with "the club" these 4 friendlies were a chance to get fit AND score a few goals, dominate a few games, get fans (a little bit) back on board and players confidance up alittle - yet we have failed to do any of these things have lost in 3 of the 4.
And when people say "results don't matter at all in friendlies" - take a look at winners like Sir AF and AW - their teams play much harder friendlies than the 4 teams we've just played and they don't lose too many of their friendlies - get fit, yes but still get the ball in the back of the net - that is what football is about.
Winners win, losers (like Kean) lose - the guy is playing teams with far inferior players and still manages to lose 75% of the time - he is completely and utterley useless !

Thought Nunes shows promise but very left-footed.
A lack of quality was obvious tonight.
However, it's all about game time and building fitness.

But McCarthy is not the answer. He talks very honestly (which would be quite refreshing after this lot) and he is apparently a very nice chap - but Wolves fans said he was rubbish at tactics and very stubborn - often persisting with players who were his favourites but who were not performing on the field. Used to drive the Wolves fans barmy with his silly after match statements sometimes too.
Does that not sound like someone we know only too well already.....
Not sure who would make a good replacement now?
Bodger Bruce has found employment again and also Laudrup has gone, who I really would have liked here. Curbs is still free I think? He could be a good be from an experience point of view.
But first we need to concentrate on getting the current monkey out of the job.

Nothing of the sort. With the influx of freebies last week I was trying to keep tabs on our 26 year old (never played a game) Malaysian who Shabby bulled up so he got a trial.(Titus Pavini)
I think he played with the reserves or U19 team and not involved at the mighty Rochdale.

Pre season friendlies are not about getting fit. Training is for getting fit. Friendlies are dress rehearsals for the season about to start in which everything is meant to come together and some fine tuning is carried out to put a polishe on the team preparation. As could be predicted Rovers have been diabolical in their friendlies. Promotion from the championship is a laughable notion, but relegation from the championship is a very real danger. The few remaining players from the old squad are very poor and have no confidence. There are so many new players that they will have no cohesion and are also largely non-entities. The manager is inept, corrupt, a national joke and hated by the supporters. The club is riven by dissent and the only real authority is some batty old **** in India. Rovers best hope for the coming season is that they are heavily defeated in every single match right from the get-go so that Kean is fired with enough of the season left to scrap together sufficient points to avoid relegation. The problem is that it is very unlikely that any decent manager or anyone with potential would work for the Venky's. Even unemployment would be preferable than career suicide working for those t@ssers. So the future is very grim and no turn around can be expected until Venkys sell out. This process can be helped on it's way if no -one buys a season ticket.

I know the BRAG met the football league yesterday, so hopefully the truth about all this will start to come out. Lets geat a real clean slate sorted, out with the owners and all who currently influence things and in with someone who has the clubs future at heart.

We are 12/1 with Paddy Power with Burnley at 7/1. Favorites to go down are Barnsley followed by Peterboro. I have a feeling our odds will be slashed after the first 3 games. I expect no more than 3 points form those and that might be a touch optimistic.

Before anyone starts with the 'its only a friendly' line, yes, I know, and I'm not bothered about the result. All I want to see is some positive, some indication that this season will be an improvement on last. Sadly the players might be different but the results and direction this club is going in won't be. Anyone spotted the one constant through all of this? That's right, the guy who put bibs and cones out for Sam Allardyce and Chris Coleman. He's dragging this club through the mud and down to his level, which will probably be the bottom half of League One.
Never mind, things might change if Venkys carry on 'splashing the cash' and sign some more Portuguese trialist under 19s.
Sing won't do anything but obey his superiors. Kean happens to be one of them. I wouldn't trust him any more than I would trust Desai, Kean or Hendry. He's shown how honest he is by backtracking on Kean as soon as Venky's flashed their cash at him.

Bad News - but we had King Kenny, Shearer, Sutty, Hendry (the player) etc! A blips a blip but Keans has lasted 21 months now.
.
Shabby - give him the reward he deserves.
.
Ah Rochdale - remember the Rovers fans cutting a hole in the net and Rochdales goal was at first given as a goal kick until that nosy linesman thought he had seen the ball go under the bar!
.
34th.........
I think your memory is slightly playing tricks on you there...the Rovers fans didnt cut a hole in the net.
It was a boy who appeared at the side of the goal - the ball virtually came out of the net....after a superb goal by Lee Brogden I think.
I remember it well...as I was that boy!
The true story is that as the ball went in and my head went down he ball was virtually at my feet (Spotland, resembles Griffin Park in Blackburn as a ground) so to get the ball was not difficult.
My hero then and even now was Oh Roger Roger, Roger Roger Roger Jones!! Always copied the way he ran across his six yard box, in his green cotton gloves!
I appeared at the side of the goal and said to him "put it down for a goal kick, and pretend it didnt go in"!! To my amazement he did!!
The Ref then waved play on, this whilst the Rochdale players were still celebrating...when they realised what had happened you can imagine their reaction...it ended up with one of their players being sent off.
The arguments continued - eventually the ref and linesman came and checked the net and saw that the net wasnt quite pegged down, and then he gave the goal - cue the Rovers arguments!
After what seemed ages the game continued, and a good quiz question is that the ref who sent off the player actually brought him back on again!
According to the "Sports Pink" which I managed to get hold of at Blackburn Boule after the coach arrived back from the match Alf Thornton wrote "he had never seen anything like it , and he certainly had never seen a player sent off, and then brought back on"!! I mustget the old paper from out of the loft some day.
It was all done as a young lad with no malice intended - not sure what would happen nowadays though!
Did Tony Field score a penalty? The rest of the game was a bit of a blur!
Hope that puts your memory straight...it was a good number of years ago!!

I thought relegation would be worth it to flush out the problems. Now I find myself thinking - yes, if we lose the first 5 games then the big problem will be removed. Will Shebby stick to his word and remove Kean after a dismal start?
I'll let you into a secret. Shaggy is a walking BS artist, who thinks Steven Gerrard should play at right back and Ryan Giggs in central defence. He has no clue and no authority. He's there to bridge the gap between club and fans and he sucked some of you in including BRAG
He does have the match ball after his MOM award against Shewsbury

Good News - We did not win any games before the Prem Championship winning season either.
.
