FULL TIME: Blackburn Rovers 2 Fleetwood Town 0

NUNO Gomes scored his first Blackburn Rovers goal as they beat Fleetwood Town 2-0 in a pre-season friendly at the Crown Ground.

The Portuguese striker volleyed home early in the second half after Mauro Formica had slotted in the opener on just six minutes.

Rovers fans got their first glimpses of Danny Murphy, Leon Best, the highly impressive Fabio Nunes, Gomes, trialist Paulo Jorge and second sub, trialist, Edinho Junior.

Rovers took the lead on just six minutes after a neat footballing move through midfield.

Summer signing Nuno Gomes switched play well to Bruno Ribeiro on the right, who brought the ball down well before advancing up the flank.

His deep cross was headed down by Nuno Gomes at the far post for the unmarked Mauro Formica to slot home from the edge of the penalty area.

Rovers continued to play some nice passing football, with Nunes looking lively down the right. Leon Best saw a header cleared off the line just after Danny Murphy had a shot deflected wide.

Nunes then drilled a fierce 20-yard shot narrowly over the bar.

Rovers carried on enjoying most of the play in the rest of the half, although chances were less frequent as the game settled down.

Jon Parkin fired over for Fleetwood towards the end of the half, before Leon Best saw a low shot well saved by Scott Davies in the dying seconds.

Best should have extended Rovers' lead after the break but, after rounding the goalkeeper, his shot was cleared off the line by Jamie McGuire.

The second goal did come on 54 though. Formica's cross from the right picked out the unmarked Gomes and his volley flew into the net, via the post.

Portuguese trialist Edinho Junior replaced Gomes with 15 minutes remaining but was unable to make much of an impact.

You don't learn a great deal from these friendlies, its just a stretching of the legs exercise.
Not a lots expected, they've just been on their hols, the suns shining, there's nothing really at stake.
Even so can anyone who attended give a un-biased appraisal of what was on show. By un-biased I mean just player by player with no ref to SK or Col or the line up.
AC's report doesn't say a great deal, maybe not much was there to report.

Like you said though, it's a leg stretching exercise and the lads need to get some in before the real challenge. A higher scoreboard may have reflected favourably with how the team may perform this season, but two goals don't give much away.

Then again it does help take the sting away slightly of a 4-2 drubbing at Macclesfield I guess. What you want to see now is a rapid show of team bonding with the new players, but that last result tells its own story about our defense and Kean doesnt look like he's learnt all that much from last season. As good as the players are, the undoubtable weak link that is the bald fergie wannabe is going to expose himself as soon as the real action kicks off.

Isn't it funny how the Hendry story comments were pulled by the LET. Shame on you LET for silencing the vast majority of Rovers' fans who are sick to death of seeing their club destroyed by greedy and disgraceful individuals. It seems you would rather protect a useless drunk driver together with a man who ripped off his elderly neighbours, taunted them with abusive text messages and called the police when they challenged him in the street. SHAME ON THE LOT OF YOU!!!!!

Yes well said Rovers PR (French Rover and the like). There must have been a lot of sheep at Ewood last season. The Wigan game alone must have seen 20,000+ calling for the drunk's pathetic bald head.

Sorry, but posting personal comments over someone on a sports forum page is wrong. Whether you like it or not, it is slanderous and libeling.
These postings are frrm people who have absolutely no involvemnet of his personal affairs, so it matters not what your,or my, or any others beliefs or opinions are of him.
If this was not the case, anyone anywhere who had an issue with anyone could willy nilly publicly slag them off. I for one would not invite that sort of environment thank you very much.
Stick to football maters please.
