Gomes completes Blackburn Rovers move

BLACKBURN Rovers have completed the signing of former Portugal striker Nuno Gomes.

The veteran striker, who turns 36 later this week, has put pen to paper on a two-year deal this evening.

The former Benfica and Fiorentina striker was released by Braga this summer.

Good luck fella. For our club BRFC I wish you all the best. A great and historic club besmirched at present with a few toads running the show.

The good folk of the town, and the surroundings, will get behind you once you pull on the B&W shirt.

Give it your best shot for the fans, please. We need a few idols to cherish of late. Be the one, and hopefully once the toad as left I may get the chance to roar you on down at the hallowed one ?

maybe if we still didnt have a f***wit of a manager, then a signing like this ( yeh, he's a bit old but so was kevin phillips last season ) might just start to make a few rovers fans think our little indian parasites were serious about bouncing straight back but unless they get rid of that useless, lying, snidey, two faced, back stabbing tactically inept excuse of a football manager, my season ticket money is staying firmly in my back pocket.

So that's our second 35 year old signing of the close season, on a two year deal at that. No wonder Murphy and Gomes were happy to sign up with clown Kean, they wouldn't get comparable deals anywhere else.

This is a great signing, maybe Best isn't the greatest, but who better to learn from than a guy who's been there and done it. This should bring Goodwillie and best on leaps and bounds. Good luck Gomes, I can't see him lasting laong in such a physical league.

It doesn't really make sense. Kean keeps harping on about signing these experienced players, yet last season he sold/forced out all the experienced players, then kept harping on about how he had reduced the average age of the team.

There is no mention of how much Gomes is being paid, but i'd wager that he will be on 20K + per week? That means that should the unthinkable happen, and we get relegated - every chance if kean stays - then we'd have Murphy at 36/37, and Gomes at 37/38, playing in League One, earning 40/50k between them?

A recipe for financial ruin.

well said oh great tarmac athlete...Nunes has been a great player.

This reminded me of the time when we signed Archibald and Ardilles - as at that time we never thought players of that class (even slightly past their best) would join a club like the Rovers.

We 'had' moved on considerably as a club since those early JW days of course - but seems like we have slipped back a little now....but not for long eh RR!

Blackburn fans will be interested in a report in tonight's London Evening Standard. This is an interview with the Russian Anton Zingarevich, who has recently bought Reading. Zingarevich speaks about a meeting he had with Richard Scudamore:
"Then Zingarevich revealed how Blackburn's relegation after a troubled 18 months under the control of Indian company Venky's may have held up his own takeover. 'The impression I got was that Scudamore and the Premier League were concerned about the Blackburn experience. They wanted to know whether an agent had any control over Reading. I was able to explain to Scudamore what I was trying to achieve. Then he felt more comfortable and we got along.'"

The headline is LEAGUE WERE WARY OF ME AFTER BLACKBURN.

interesting indeed, but after the event for us I'm afraid. Regardless of whether there was any wrong doing or not, its a past tense in terms of being able to stop it happening for Rovers.

Good mornming Steve. Hope you had a nice hoilday. I know you've been away for a few weeks but I just wanted to point out that we still have to play with 11, even in the championship, otherwise your line up may have got us promotion. Sorry!

Very funny that, especially CH as Cousin IT. You have to laugh havent you. Giving a 36 year old a 2 year contract is frankly mystifying. Im imagining Gomes in front of a half empty stadium with a few Kean telling him there is a virus going round, a few Kean Out banners and The Penguin (Goodwillie) paddling round next to him with Uncle Fester muttering to him in Portuguese something about us having 90 chances at the end of a 5-0 loss just after a chicken has been released onto the pitch wearing the portuguese flag. Welcome to Bedlam Nuno.
Dont really come across as much of a Rovers fan do you?
Funny that. Iv thought the same about you every time I read your posts. You must be a laugh a minute - not.

Why would he not join a Premier League team. If Rovers had signed him, most on here would be moaning about his injury record and saying we had got another Grella.

With Keans tactical genuis behind them, that squad would still lose even if they all got on the pitch together... but thanks Lewis 87, at least your post should give Kean a clue as to the position he should play them in.... Cos he has no clue whatsoever...

Just seen away strip? Just plain blue. Will there not be a lot of clashes with teams home strip? Seems a strange choice first strip blue, second strip slightly darker blue.
