Blackburn Rovers must thrive under pressure, says defender Orr

CONFIDENT OF SURVIVAL Rovers defender Bradley Orr CONFIDENT OF SURVIVAL Rovers defender Bradley Orr

BRADLEY Orr believes Blackburn Rovers have to ‘embrace the pressure’ after insisting each player has to shoulder the responsibility for pulling the club out of the relegation mire.

Rovers will travel to White Hart Lane on Sunday afternoon at least three points adrift of safety and, with just three games left, Orr knows the clock is ticking on their top flight status.

Last weekend’s 2-0 home win over Norwich at least gave Rovers a Premier League lifeline and the January signing from QPR insists it is up to the players to do all they can to grab it with both hands.

He said: “All we have given ourselves is a chance. We can’t get carried away with that one result because we have got three games to make sure we are safe.

“We have to keep showing our battling qualities and producing moments of magic when we need them, like the two goals. We have to embrace the pressure and enjoy it.

“In a strange way you have to enjoy the pressure rather than let it affect you and go the other way. Hopefully that is the mentality and attitude we can show in the next few days.

“All you can ask is you go and give your all. If we accept the situation we are in and enjoy the pressure of needing to get wins, I think it takes care of itself sometimes.

“You just go out there and do what you are good at rather than worrying about making mistakes or going a goal behind. If you fill your mind with negativity all the time the likelihood is the worst will happen.

“But if you try, as a team and as a club, to think positively and believe in our tactics and what the gaffer is setting us out to do, the majority of times things will work out for you.”

Rovers boss Steve Kean remains under fire from large sections of the club’s supporters for his part in Rovers’ second relegation scrap in successive seasons.

Orr though, who will line up at right back at White Hart Lane on Sunday, insists Kean has taken responsibility for his squad and insists it is time the players repaid him.

“Behind closed doors the gaffer has been magnificent,” said Orr. “The positivity out of the man is phenomenal. It hasn’t surprised me because I saw the way he reacted from when he was under real pressure.

“I think at times he has shouldered responsibility when it wasn’t really him who should have been. That is what he has done when things haven’t gone well for us over the past few weeks.

“Beyond your footballing skills it takes a special person to be able to do that. You talk about leaders and he has shown it in abundance. For me a leader shoulders responsibility for his troops, when really it is not him, it is the players.

“We have a fighting chance with three games to go and if we can repay his faith in us and stay up then that would be great.

“One hundred per cent we as players have to take responsibility. I don’t think any player in the dressing room would tell you other wise. It is the 11 who are sent out and the subs who can affect things.

“The manager and coaches job is to prepare you and then come match day it is the players who have to perform and if it doesn’t go right, it is up to the players to take responsibility. I don’t think anyone has ever shied away from that. We are just trying to focus on the positive side and believing we can get out of trouble.”

Meanwhile the Lancashire Telegraph understand the season ticket Early Bird deadline will not be extended beyond the original date of Monday April 30.

Rovers fans can, until then, buy season tickets in the Ronnie Clayton Blackburn End and the Riverside at the frozen price of just £225. The price after that is unlikely to be announced until the club knows what league it will be in next season.

Desai: I’ve just been watching the video of the Norwich game last Saturday. Steve sends it to me every week. 7-1. Great win wasn’t it.
Hunt: Hmmmm.
Desai: Tell me, how much do you think we might get if we sold Shearer?
Hunt: Hmmm. Shearer doesn’t play for us any longer.
Desai: He was playing on Saturday.
Hunt: Hmmm. I think you’d better speak to Stevie about that.

They might as well announce the price of the season tickets now. Firstly because no one will buy one and secondly because I will state right now, the league we will be playing in WILL be the Championship. You can get 1/4 at the bookies on that and this is the closest you will ever get to a sure bet.

What svengali powers does kean have that adults are completely hoodwinked. Non-influenced people have only to look at Keans winning percentage to realise he is not a credible manager. If Orr thinks it's all the player's fault just count up the number of players that have played under him. Anyone with any football knowledge knows you get the defence sorted 1st. Orr- LOOK AT THE GOALS AGAINST COLUMN! Lastly when we go down kean can say the players let him down-they weren't positive enough-it wasn't his fault (the venkys gang will say it's the fans negativity and dark forces-nottheir fault).

Morning Phil :)

You and I have, for nigh on 40 years, followed our club through all weathers and laughed and cried but, this situation is one we do not recognize.

Taking the stance I have is heartbreaking but, being taken down is somewhat different to going down ?

I agree with Orr's comments that his manager as been first class behind closed doors but, the problem lay's in that the preparation etc is just not good enough for them to win, draw enough games. His(Kean) total lack of experience is the reason we are struggling along with him allowing for the most senior of players being allowed to leave without a whimper from him.

His cutting of his managerial teeth at BRFC is and will be proved to be utter folly.

When is this man of integrity etc going to stand up and say:

Enough is enough I cannot fulfill my obligations when an axe so severe is being taken to this once well run club ?

I received a reply from P. Hunt after sending a letter of reply with my ST stating I would not be renewing unless things change down at Ewood ?

As of yet nothing as changed.

Although Steve Kean has had a very negative effect on Rovers and blatantly had fall outs within his own dressing room he isn't the big problem Venky's are.

Think of it like this we are a marketing tool in Venky's eyes but like all assets they want to reduce costs.

The average Premier League club gets around £18m on average to spend each season on transfers alone the average Championship team is only £6m.

Never mind the amount of exposure and brand awareness they have received from the press alone, some people may argue that they are getting bad exposure but any exposure is good exposure realistically because before all this happened who knew who they was? Nobody outside India.

Now imagine you own a fast food restaurant you don't have many contacts and trying to find out who does chicken the cheapest? That information isn't easily secured for a small business you ring around some businesses and think of Venky's I mean who's going to know right? Due to the bad press Venky's drop prices for customers and capture many new clients.

I know 3 fast food takeaways that do Venky's chicken in Blackburn and Accrington alone. KFC being the obvious one I am not going to name and shame the rest because it would ruin them.

Think of Steve Kean as a hit man he is getting rid of the most valuable asset to the business which is Premier League football who do you blame the hit man or the person who took the hit out on you?

Premier League football is a great marketing tool but so is the Championship over 15 million people watch Championship football each year which means if we are relegated about 1/24 of them will see Blackburn so about 600,000 people will see them about 10% of all businesses are in the food industry at the moment about 10% of people are unemployed so say there are 54,000 people who work in the food industry 40% of businesses in the food industry are take-aways which means they are speaking directly to 20,000 people if they could 200 people on board with them they are making an absolute fortune.

Never mind the 600+ million people that watch the Premier League each year using the same estimations about 750,000 people who work in takeaways will see Venky's logo world wide they could hit tens of billions with that amount of new business coming in.

Most of this is estimations but the point is they aren't asset stripping more like using us squeezing every last bit of publicity they can from us and for as little as possible to ensure that this grabs them the most profit.

They won't let us go into admin because they'll lose there investment.

They'll sell up when they know there is nothing more to gain from Rovers (Non-League football).

I can imagine by then something might have been done but I'm not sure.

That sums it up - most fans will be back when Kean is gone and Venkys either sell or invest up front(with proof!)
.
As much as we love Simon Garner today he says "Don't let Venkys stop you enjoying going to Ewood" - but the point is Simon if they sell off all the best players and get us relegated they might just be spoiling it for us? Next we will be losing to the Dingles for the first time in a generation.
.
They are clearly worried - making threats about no deadline extention etc - SAD you know us not Paul Hunt!
.
Hold off ST renewals until Kean is gone and then we will negotiate!

Brilliance is quite right about publicity. I've always argued that Venkys can't lose. When they pull out eventually they can still lie and say it was a brave venture, first Indians etc, time not right, now concentrate on core business etc.
As Oscar Wilde said "the only thing worse than being talked about, is not being talked about"

Shear_Brilliance:- "I know 3 fast food takeaways that do Venky's chicken in Blackburn and Accrington alone. KFC being the obvious one I am not going to name and shame the rest because it would ruin them."

I hadn't realised that Venkys Chicken was actually operating in this country. If local outlets are using their products don't their potential customers (especially local ones) have a right ton know. If your facts are correct then if their business suffers as a reault, it was their decision to sell the stuff.

It's a tough one. It depends on the outlets. If it's KFC then you could put a franchisee out of business in the process. He may well be told by the franchise where to buy his chicken.

Yes, thats right, I put pen to paper and Im happy to commit to the club.
This is a good time to play Liverpool
This is a good time to play Swansea
I didnt see it. What did it say (in response to the Kean Out flag over the ground)
We arent in the champions league YET
This is one part of a four part plan
We know what we have to do now
I cant walk down the streets of Blackburn
People come up to me in the streets and pat me on the back (how do they get past the 7th Dann?)
Im not interested in the fans
We did well for the first 5 or 6 minutes
His most popular story when a players isnt playing seems to be "he's got a virus".
We're sending him to hospital for tests.
The number of players who have miraculously recovered from an injury or virus makes Kean a candidate for scientist of the year award.

What's the point? Sell our best players and another season with inept management. 100% liars from top to bottom - have to be removed.

Relegation, no problem, RTID, but vermin Venky's out at all costs.

Worse than vermin?

Put simply (without all the stats) it says what many of us Knew / suspected from virtually day 1.
The only reason they bought Rovs was for exposure.
There is the state of: publicity and no publicity. To expand a business you need publicity.
I think we can safely say that Venkys have probably had more publicity than they could have dreamt of.
Some have said, but surely this is bad bad publicity? Sorry but there is no such thing, publicity is publicity.
Only people with BRFC in their hearts see it as that.

By running the club on the cheap is their way of keeping marketing costs down.

The nice 'returns' on outgoing players is simply 'icing on the cake'.

I don't agree they are around for a long time, I will give them about 18 - 24 months.

I think this is incorrect Yarkshaw Rover....I have been searching the internet to see if they have ANY level of chicken sales in Europe and I cant find anything...

They did send some of their Venky Xpress staff across to the UK as they have a link-up with a company in the south of England. Campden BRI. They are a food technology company.

They also have links with a Swiss Pharmacy company..

But absolutely nothing on anything to do with any Venky chicken sales in Europe yet.

I think someone has been winding you up...
